Can you please say is this a good specification to goahead. Thanks in advance. Shutters of Postforming type with laminate as per choice by client of SF finish from Merino or Greenlam. Frame Material of thickness mm in 18 mm coomercial Hardwood Plywood both side laminated using 0. Hi Nandita, You are an exceptional guide. Really appreciate your effort. My builder has given the below quote for Kitchen work. Could you kindly examine it and give your opinion on the cost as well as the proposed materials for the job.

Exposed surfaces in MDF with foil finish. Unexposed surfaces in prelaminated MDF. Unit below the sink in laminated BWP ply. Rate to include PVC skirting and Ducting.

Can you please let me know the reasonable current market rate all inclusive in per sqft for following finishes. Veneer 3. Melamine hdf 4. Metallic hdf. PSFT costing is always approximate…you can get this from your carpenter. Final costing is best done based on the design otherwise it leads to heartburn later. Madam Hi, Really good info, Thanks. My little query is i want to rent out my Flat for which i would like to go for Interior work what are the approx costs and what wood i have to ask him to go for reg 1 Kitchen 2 TV unit 3 wardrobes.

Madam just what is approx cost for laminates and veneer as on today just approx madam. I have found all your posts really helpful especially being a novice in this area. Its commendable that somebody is really taking so much interest in giving us a walkthrough about this unknown world which you experience only when you buy a home like us:- in layman's language.

Would appreciate your inputs for the following querries:- Which of the ply is better Century or branded ply for JK? Whats the price difference if any?

How does price difference look between veneer and laminate? My carpenter wants to put plywood base, wouldn't these legs provide equally good support and also help keep the base clean? Yes you can use PVC legs under the Wardrobe. However if you leave them open then it may not look too pretty.

Legs are used in Kitchens to avoid "wet" contact — no such problem in bedrooms hence there is really no "need" to use legs. Hi Nandita, Please help me to understand How interiors measurements are done in Bangalore. I understand you mean costing to determine payments to carpenters since most good designers will cost based on the design and not the sqft.

The above is done based on HXW except, when you have a corner then take the Width along the wall and not the frontage.

Running feet is simply the length for e. Thank you for all the inputs, going through all your inputs I feel it is more easy to go with you to design my interiors. If you feel that you can work on small house 2BHK with approximately sqft in marathahalli area bangalore, Please do get in touch with me, I am jagadish my no Hi Jagadish — you can reach me at nanditamanwani gmail.

What's your view on this idea. Regds, Rama. Hi Nandita, Thank you for you excellent blog. It's very informative. Can you provide some details about interior designing cost in bangalore.?.

What will be the range to get 2D and 3D designs? Is it charged on super built up area or based on wood work area? Can you let me know some such vendors who do job work in whitefield area-thanks Rajen. I would not know any such vendors in Whitefield. Also most factories do not entertain retail customers, even if they do it will be very painful for you to manage.

Ideally let your carpenter therefore handle in case he has a connect. Hii Nandita,I done venire lamination in my office how the calculation will go for doors and counting for running feet lamination for 2 inch,4 inch, and 6inch. Each jobwork vendor will have his own method of costing — ideally this should be discussed before giving out the work.

Hi Nandita, Very informative posts. As I have understood from the some of queries and your replies to them, while preparing the cost for the wardrobe, we should only consider the height x width. Is it applicable even if one side of the wardrobe has lamination? So the carpenter is including its area while calculating? Is it correct? He is doing the same for the T. V and shoe rack also.

Please advice. Its usually the frontal area only. Its best to avoid such a discussion and contract on an overall basis based on the design. It is very usefull blog. My interior designer is referring me that he is using pine wood. Can you pls suggest whether pine wood will be fine or we need to for plywood?

Pine Wood is not recommended as it is soft wood. Very useful blog and loads of information for all us newbies who are new to home interiors. I wanted to know how suitable is "veneer" for kitchen shutters?

Look and finishing wise nothing beats veneer or solid wood work, hence I am willing to go an extra mile if its worth spending the money.

The house is situated in Bangalore speciying location as many designers suggested veneer is not suitable for bangalore kutchens due to weather conditions. Please give your suggestions. Veneer is not recommended for Kitchens as the polish wears off in moist and heavy usage kitchen environment.

You may however use solid wood shutters. This is a tremendously useful blog series. It's so complete that while reading, the moment I have a question in my mind, you answer that in the next sentence.

Thank you! I am getting kitchen cabinets done at my apartment. Right now, the carcass is all done and I wanna do shutters with membrane mdf. You can actually do the cost calculation based on the psft rate of the laminate and ply you are using. This is quite helpful Nandita.. Thanks a lot! Considering rates.. BWR for kitchen and MR for wardrobes.. Length Width Sq.

Ft Total Sq. Wardrobe -1 7 6 42 Hi Being in the same line of work I refrain from commenting on quotes from others as it is unethical for me to play judge without complete knowledge of the background.

Thanks for your understanding. Hi Nandita What should be the thickness of the plywood for kitchen and wardrobes? My carpenter is suggesting to use 16 mm bwr for kitchen and 16 mm mr for wardrobes with laminates on both sides.

There is a plywood retailer who is suggesting to go with 18mm with laminates on both sides. What should be the choice here? I have searched the entire web and could find only one article which was in favor of 16 mm plus laminates. Is 18or 19 mm rwally an overkill? Hi Nandita, Can you provide a rough estimate of carpentary job per sq feet if we provide the ply and laminate….

In Bangalore a good carpenter will charge you between Rs. Your blog is very informative and helpful. We want to start interior work in our home.

As per our budget we got good carpenter too, but I want to know that before doing carpentry work what all work should be done in new home and in which order? That is false celling, pest control, extra tile work, electrical etc.

Very good question and something that most folks don't do well leading to a bit of a mess later. In that order. Moisture resistant or "made" moisture resistant through post forming will not do. For wardrobes MDF is fine. Can you pls explain? I heard machine made has low life and hence my question. Thx, Hari. If you use the same material — i. Sometimes vendors make the machine made carcass in MDF as that is cheaper — in that case the quality and life is lower.

Hello Nandita, Please suggest.. Can you please suggest me where i can get factory made plywood or mdf carcasses,. Hi ,I just want know weather kohinoor ply is good or not for kitchen work and what would be expected persquare feet cost for kitchen work. Try your nearest modular kitchen vendor.

For plywood you may not have much control on the brands used by the vendor hence best to check the specific brand that the vendor uses. I would not know the psft rates for the Kitchen work as I do not price based on psft as it leads to scope management issues. Hi Nandita, Really nice article to know the depth and breadth of wood work.

I am planning for my house interiors. I cannot comment on the rates as being in the same line of work that would be unethical. The materials planned however look fine. While this rate might be right or wrong, he is now saying that he would charge the same rate on running foot basis wherever the panel width is less than a foot.

Is this the correct way of calculating? Hello Nandita, Initially I was planning to do carpentary works through interiors, but after seeing ur blog, i am interested to take up the wood work by myself and just pay the labour cost.

What do you think? If you have the time, inclination as well as a flair for design then you may as well go with just a labour contract. Yes the ask is right and carpenters do their costing that way. You may be able to negotiate a better running foot rate however per square foot costing is always painful and runs into issues and heartburn at both ends. I therefore advise getting lump sum rates for the entire work. We are planning to get wardrobes made out of plywood and sunglass.

We want the best but do not mind the price. Can u suggest us the best option for wardrobes? Thanks very much for taking time to read this. Hi, I need help with costing of converting a double bed into 2 single beds.

There are already 2 inbuilt boxes, so essentially its cutting the back and front frames and putting "palla" on wither sides of the single beds. What would be the cost of doing this and polishing the entire unit?

Thanks a lot for this Blog. Just wanted to know, How do i be assured that my newly approved interior agency is going to use what they are quoting me. I am very much interested in get my new home fully interior-ed. But this hesitation is there regarding the quality. They have offered me all the warranty and all. I have my own range of Wardrobes www. You may check out the global brands such as Nolte.

I will be unable to comment on specific costing. In the interiors business and for that matter in most businesses there are numerous ways that an unscrupulous agency can take its customers for a ride. You will never be able to plug all the avenues available. Hence it is best to go with someone who you feel you can trust. I am about to begin my home interior and per carpenter and interiors using Marine ply in entire home will be the best option.

Please advise if marine ply is good for interiors. Yes Marine ply is a good option. We have got the interior done and our carpenter seems to cheat us as we being new bee in this. If the measurement is 26 inches ie near 2.

And he says this is the way it is to be calculated. Is this the right practice to measure around Bangalore. Please reply ASAP. The carpenter is calculating based on the regular practice here in Bangalore. Typically the linear measurement is rounded off to the next half foot.

That said your's is a classic case that showcases why I strongly do NOT recommend per square foot pricing as it almost always leads to heartburn at both ends. Who should i go with handfinish or machine finish?! Hi Nandita, Nice blog. I have been reading all the tips and great information. I wanted to ask one question. Can you please tell me what is the market rate for carpenters nowadays.

I want to do interiors for my house and if i provide the materials what will a carpenter charge per sqft. I know and i have read that you do not believe in sqft rate but just an estimate. And is the rate for wardrobes different than the rate for as well as loft , kitchen, under the stairs, Study room, TV unit and under the vanity top for bathrooms.

Thank you so much in advance. Per sqft costing can get complicated. Different Carpenters charge different rates, in addition some things are costed per sqft frontage while some include the area of the side.

Hi nandita, i am seeing the last posting by dec' My limitation is around rs. Costs vary based on the design and the material used. However I do not believe that you will be able to get acceptable quality in a budget of 1. If what you have is ISI marked then it is fine to use…no need for going in for branded ones. Hello Nandita, the blog is really interesting with good level of details.

We have made the wardrobes in our 3 bedrooms with 4mm iron mesh, cement and sand with a 18 MM thickness. Is it required to go with green ply club plywood or green ply marine block board as some carpenters are saying that plywood in Bangalore weather will bend a little. The size of shutters will be around 7 feet. Club is the top one in Greenply variety gurjon wood and is used in very hot places around Vijayawada extensively.

Kindly suggest if there will be reduction in life as we are looking at least 25 years with no major maintenance. We planned to use Greenply club for full kitchen and to unit as it is top of Marine or Gold of Greenply. Thanks Jagannath.

Block board has better resistance to warping hence it is better than ply for shutters. I am planning to get my interiors done. I heard from some folks that it is not advisable to get the woodwork done in the monsoons. Is this correct? We would be using the standard materials.

Ply, Block board and such. There is no issue in doing woodwork during the monsoons. However painting and polishing is a little difficult in humid weather as the it takes longer to dry out especially the polish. If one does not have a good hand then the polish may develop patches. Prices of wardrobes vary between — per sqft frontal area based on the material used, hardware, accessories, shelving as well as whether the wardrobe is sliding or hinged.

Hi Nandita…Excellent blog and nice to see you still responding to queries. I have decided to go with a carpenter after seeing his work…for my flat which I will be taking possession in a month. He is from a different city and hence I would be hosting him in my unfinished flat while the interior work is being done.

I would be providing all the materials. Would like to know the current optimum market rate for labor charges per sq. Carpenter labour rates in Bangalore vary between Rs — per square foot. Hello Nandita , can you please helpme with the name of the shops opposite GR pinnacle in Kanakpura road? I am not ableto find them on google i want to know the prices they offer for green gold or any other marine ply. Hi Nandita!

Everyone claims life time warranty and operate the same way, at least to begin with! Any idea of the load carrying capacity of these hinges? No body is giving specs for hinges unlike railings. Asking because planning to have storage behind shutter in kitchen tall unit like a fridge door.

Keeping aside looks, confused in practical functional value between tandem box, steel racks and regular wooden drawers. These tandem boxes cost a bomb. Is it just style or add value to usage? Note that I have received feedback from some readers on this blog that they faced issues with Rohini hence this is not a recommendation. Ketaki, its impossible to do that in the odd words that this reply window allows :.

In terms of quality I have found Ebco to be as good as any of the other multi national brands. There is no load carrying capacity mentioned as the vendors mostly want to avoid any liability. However any good carpenter will know based on experience how many hinges to use. Tandem box based drawers are easier to use and also have a better finish — I would recommend them over regular drawers or SS baskets.

Hi Nandita, I am starting a interior work for my house. I have contacted a interior guy and he told me that he will use G-apple ply for wardrobe, i am not sure of this brand.

If it is cheaper than this then the quality is circumspect. Thanks for all the valuable informations here. Is Greenply BWP grade good for kitchen?

Also what could be the approx cost per sqr feet? Hi,I am planning for wardrobe in my 2bhk flat in Hyderabad and wanted to give it for rent.

All I wish to do in less cost. Apparently builder has already done concrete shelf's in bedrooms so just wanted to cover them with plywood sliders and wanted to do modular kitchen. How would I do all these will less cost? Can I go for Aluminium frames in bedrooms? You can reach out at -Meher Meher. You may put a wooden frame and shutters to cover the concrete shelves to make the wardrobe.

You may minimize on the wall units to save some cost. Amazing dedication and selflessness! Hats off to you. I came across your blog accidentally and am pleasantly surprised nay, overwhelmed by the solid, practical advice you are giving to your readers…. Also please ensure that the material is purchased from a reputed company dealer to avoid spurious supply. Really informative spot. Answered all my questions already by reading all comments.

I have a additional question. I wanted to know how can I check the quality of the plywood for its authencity to confirm it is truly Is stamped. From internet I found this brand makes plywoods in Mangalore but nothing more than that. Any information will be helpful for me. BWP is Grade and not Unfortunately thre is no way to check the quality. A carpenter can however make a judgement call by looking into the weight of the ply and how it cuts.

Nandita, I saw some high gloosy finish glass in the sliding wardrobe. The information shared by you is really helpful. Can you help me with the details on that as well. If you have additional budget then you may include a Foyer and a crockery unit as that may get you higher rent or a tenant who will stay longer.

Hi Nandita: I am building a small sqft flat in Vijayanagar, Bangalore. Would you like to do the Kitchen, Bedroom Wardrobes 1 master and 2 smaller rooms , Living room TV cabinet, Bedroom TV cabinet, one crockery cabinet with a handwash sink and 2 Bathroom cabinets under the sink.

How do I get an estimate from you? I would like to use solid wood wherever possible. Hi Nandita, Could you please recommend few good Indian modular kitchen brands in Bangalore. Preferably one who have their own manufacturing unit along with design and implementation Team With same company providing end to end solution will reduce cost. Amarnath, Having my own range of Modular Kitchens it would be unfair for me to recommend or Un-recommend anyone.

Hi madam.. Is that cost appropriate can u pls advise. Srinivas, As a policy I do not comment on costs charged by vendors as it is unfair on my part to play judge, especially with limited information. Hi Nanditaji, this article was written in Can you please refresh this with the current labour rates in Bangalore? Are these reasonable? Labour rates are dependent upon both market conditions and how desperate the carpenter is for work.

At the same time my learning has been that getting the work done on psft rates kills creativity and almost always leads to heartburn and bickering. That said — the rates you have quoted seem pretty competitive. Hi Nandita-Hats off to you for showing so much passion and patience to answer queries posted here.

I want to thank you for all the insights offered. I was able to complete my home interiors on time and within budget since I was well informed. Not to mention the carpenter was good but your blog helped me to validate his material recommendations and rates quoted. Hi Ananth, with apologies to Nandita for intervention. The reasonable price of Hyderabad I would give you. There are two types of wood work. One has to go for wood framing and fixing of doors.

Then everything has to be constructed by wood. The price varies for frame is Rs. But…here you have to be very careful. Purchasing of everything has to be your part.

If you believe your carpenter, he makes deal with the shopkeeper and arranges his commission where you are going loose more. Most of the carpenters dump the customers in the purchase of wood and hardware. And dont forget about the beeding….. Nandita's blog is very very and very useful for every homemaker. Thanks Madam Nandita. HI Nanditha, Your blog is very useful. I have a question.

But my father-in-law is suggesting to use Gurjan ply. Can you please Wood Work Home Design Ideas suggest which ply to use. Hi Nandita, Can you suggest any good interior designer for new TV unit and pooja shelf work for my flat in sarjapur road bangalore,. Gurjan is a type of wood used to make plywood. The branded ones will offer standard quality, good finish and after sales support.

Most good designers may not take on individual units. It may be worthwhile to explore buying the units ready made from the market. I am trying to find a factory where I can get my woodwork done. I have my own design and material. Hence now looking for someone to execute it. Can you please suggest some factory? This factor is denoted as C f and it is demonstrated through tests that the size of the element, which intended to be constructed, influence the stress that causes failure.

Therefore, the member size should be taken into consideration and this can be done by multiplying basic bending and compression values by size factor. National design specification provided recommendation regarding the value of beam stability factor C L. In the case where the compression edge of rectangular bending member is unstable, the stability factor for beam is calculated as per the equation provided by NDS 3.

Moreover, the national design specification recommends values for beam stability factor may be taken as 1 for sawn lumber based on lateral support condition and member depth to with ratio which is provided in Table Column stability factor, which is denoted as C p is found out as per the provisions of national design standard. The value of column stability factor is taken as 1 if lateral displacement of compression member is avoided in all direction by providing supports throughout the entire length of the member.

However, if members such as shores or braces are likely to fail in buckling instead of crushing, the column stability factor reduces the permissible compression stress that is parallel to the natural lines grain in the wood. The following equation is employed to compute column stability factor. It is demonstrated through tests that, the ultimate load which is carried by wood in short duration is massively greater than the maximum load that is supported by wood in normal duration.

This property of wood is adjusted and arranged by applying load duration factor. Table-2 provides load duration factor for certain cumulative maximum load duration. It is worth mentioning that, the load duration factor for most formworks is taken as 1.

This factor is utilized to increase concentrated load design values on wood perpendicular to grain or natural lines of wood. As per national design specification for wood construction, the bearing area factor is employed to bearings of any length at the end of the member, and to all bearing that 6 inch or more in length at any other location. If the above conditions are reached, then the factor is computed using the following formula otherwise it is 1.

If wood lost about thirty percent of its moisture content, its strength will increase. The essential design values have been established for a wood with moisture content of nineteen percent or smaller. However, this moisture content might be increased because wood could expose to external conditions.

In this case moisture factor need to be applied to adjust the design values. When In this situation, the stress which causes failure will be larger by small amount. Therefore, flat use factor C fu is used to adjust basic design values of bending stress. Table 3 provided flat use factor. Hangers, anchors, and ties are examples of accessories which are employed in formwork. These accessories are commonly manufactured from steel and either ultimate or allowable strength of such tools are provided by producers.

So, if the ultimate strength is given, then it should be multiplied by safety factor to achieve permissible strength.

Minimum safety factors for accessory are provided by ACI and shown in Table 4. Bending design values is multiplied by repetitive use factor if minimum three lumbers with thickness of 5. Flooring, sheathing, subflooring are examples of members, which can withstand and distribute design load, may be used to connect lumbers. Generally, the repetitive use factor which is employed is 1. There are different manufactured wood products that may be used in the construction of formworks for example laminated veneer lumber Figure 2 and Figure 3 , parallel strand lumber Figure 4 and Figure 5 , laminated strand lumber Figure 6.

There are three adjustment factors namely: load duration, wet use, and experience factor which are applied to permissible stress values provided by The Engineered Wood association. The load duration factor is the same as of wood while both experience and wet use factor are considered in permissible plywood stress. Types of Formwork Shuttering for Concrete Construction.
