Discussion Starter • #1 • Jul 17,   Before you buy the Incra, check out the Rockler crosscut table saw sled. I have one and love it. The trick is to zero its swing arm out with the blade using a large draftsman's square. You loosen the hairline (2 screws) and reset it to zero and Once you've done that, the arm ticks off exact angles up to 50 degrees. Because the scale is at the end of the swing arm, it can be read down to a tiny fraction of one degree. You can also get a cutoff support for it Incra Mitre 5000 Jacket for a few bucks more. The Rockler unit is $, and occasionally on sale. The cutoff support is about $40 more. The Incra is nic. So I went to do a little project last night and discovered that my Wood Whisperer crosscut sled is all out of square. The front rail is no longer   Am I giving the Incra too much credit by assuming it could be my workhorse for crosscutting? Would it be okay in the cold/hot shop or would I have to bring it and put it to bed every night? Is there something else that does the same thing for less money? I've seen the Rockler one but it appears to rely on your eye and no positive stops so it doesn't really appeal to me. Would one of the Incras without the sled do mostly the same thing? Am I an idiot (Christmas money or no) for spending Incra Miter Gauges Ssl that much dough? TL;DR My sled is shot, hate building jigs, Christmas money catching pants on fire. What do you think of this sled? Is anyone using this sled for complex work? Any links so I can learn how to amp up the performance? Reply.  I have Incra gauges but, I believe the sled uses a different slot adjustment method. The miter gauges have discs that you expand by tightening the screw. Does the sled use the adjustable wedges? If so, you tighten the wedges to the point that the sled slides easily but, is snug in the slot. It is a balancing act between too tight and too loose. If you cannot get a setting that is reliable through the full length of the slot, your slot is irregular and a spring-loaded ball type glide (although I do not find then satisfactory) may be the answer.
