30 Woodshop layout ideas | workshop layout, woodworking shop layout, shop layout

Last week I started in on my new shop layout by tearing down an old workbench and getting ready to move some tools around. Once I have the necessary cabinets and other storage solutions finalized, which I am currently working on, I will put away the things that are laying around.

To use the same shop layout tool I used for my entire shop rearrangement, visit Grizzly. Preparing lpans the new shop layout with the shop planner by Grizzly helped a ton.

I knew where everything needed to go. During this process I had to move certain things several times to be able to rearrange. In order to move my table saw, I had to disconnect the dust collection hoses and move it out of the way for the time being.

Moving the table saw was necessary in order to move the Outfeed Assembly Table. The way we moved it was a lot simpler than I had originally thought. I picked up a couple of moving dollies from Harbor Freight a while back when I bought my Grizzly bandsaw.

I used the dollies to carry the boxed bandsaw from the delivery truck to my woodworking shop plans layout model by wheeling it down the driveway. Anyway, they came in woodworking shop plans layout model with moving the table. We had to shift it over about 4 feet and spin it degrees. Jay and I lifted one side at a time and with our foot positioned a dolly under the edge of the table.

We did the same thing on the opposite side and moved the table into position according to the shop layout plan. When I designed the table, I designed it so that I could access all three sides easily. Now that I am moving it towards one side of the shop I need to leave it away from the wall enough to be able to access all sides with the exception layouut woodworking shop plans layout model side facing the table saw.

Having it away from the wall leaves me room to hang my clamp rack and dust whop without interfering with the access to the table. In a previous shop layout I had my bandsaw between the garage door and the entry door. I have moved it back to that location, but it seems to be a good fit now because the table saw and Outfeed Assembly Table have been spun around and moved over towards the wall.

The bandsaw is now on the outfeed side of the table saw, but out of the way. There are a couple more locations that would work for the bandsaw if needed. I work out of my shop, so having a desk is something I need. I could work off of my outfeed assembly table or even the workbench once I build it, but having a dedicated space makes more sense for me.

So, I moved my desk from one corner of the shop to another. The space I moved it to was actually not being used for lsyout in particular, it was just collecting stuff.

Having an open mind and thinking beyond your current setup could allow you to see things in a more efficient way. My Clamp Rack had prime realestate in my last shop layout. It was front and center so to speak. Even when I build a workbench and have an extra flat surface to work off of, my Outfeed Assembly Table plabs still be the best assembly area I have.

So, in relation to the assembly table I moved woodworking shop plans layout model clamp rack closer to where they would be used.

Another reason for moving them was to free woodworking shop plans layout model the wall the clamps were hanging on. I want to build a workbench for my kids and the floorspace against the wall where the clamps were is the perfect place for it. That leaves an empty wall space above where the actual rack was secured to the wall, which is where my drill charging station will go.

In this particular new shop layout, the area where the clamps used to be will be the new best spot for my drills. Also, having a bench and place for the kids to call their own will be a great addition.

My sheet goods have changed locations a couple of times layou the last few months. The addition of a traditional workbench is going to be new for me, but I woodworkiing to learn more about hand tools. This will also provide a dedicated place to store all things hand tools and even sharpening tools, which I so desperately need to learn more about. Adding a workbench for the kids will give someplace the kids can call their own. Plsns will also provide a place to store their Tool Totes free plan and out of the way.

What I love about this idea is that whatever I am doing at my bench they can emulate at theirs. It could be a great learning tool for them.

Changing up a shop and rearranging can be tiring, but there are things to learn from it. When we change things up, it causes us to re-think and come up with new ways of doing things. It challenges us to get outside of our comfort zone and when we do that we are more open minded as to the things we can accomplish.

So, I say change things up. Challenge yourself to improve the convenience and workflow of your shop.
