Both of those things come with size. The 18 BX really looks like a lot of bang for the buck. Reply to this topic Bandssaw - Dual Arm Light, V. The LT18 comes with an aluminum rip fence that adjusts for drift and a tubular front rail.

Laguna - Dual Arm Light, V. I've finally set up and started using my new bandsaw. I'm very pleased with the Laguna. The ceramic guides remind me of the "cool blocks" that came with the Delta. I can change blades in 10 minutes I timed it. The ceramic guides under the table are easy to adjust even with my fat fingers. You can see what you're doing through the throat plate hole.

The 3 HP motor plowed through some 10" thick walnut without hesitation. I wouldn't be without the foot brake. I was leaning toward the 14BX for that reason and decided this will be my last bandsaw so spent the extra for the The extra large table is great for 50 log halves.

The only issue I had with set up was the table tilt was rough. I removed the table and found the trunnion base had some rough debris in the milled areas. I cleaned it with emery cloth, gave it a light grease and it now tilts very smoothly. It's only been in use a week but so far I'm very impressed. I've milled about 40 BF of walnut and maple. All the adjustments are simple and stay true. Haven't needed Laguna support since the machine arrived basically flawless. This is my first full size bandsaw.

I was considering just about everything from entry level 14 inch units all the way to this unit at the high end of my price range, and I am glad I went with the 18 bx.

I did save some money by having woodcraft order it to the store, and then picking it up in my truck, but I did need help getting it in and out since the crate was well over pounds. Now, I am not an expert use by any means, but I'll give my overall impressions and experience with the saw after having used it for a few months. My main use for this saw is to break down larger timber into usable lumber for turning as well as other projects.

First we ripped it on a tablesaw without a fence to get rid of sapwood, and put a cut in the center of the arc of growth rings. The next step was to cut the 8' boards into 2' lengths. I tied the switch on a chop miter saw. One helper pushed the board to the stop. I chopped the cut as fast as I could slam the saw down with my left hand, and handed the cutoff to the other helper who stacked them next to the bandsaw. All tools were stationed so fewest footsteps possible were made.

I made a sled that the 2" board rode on to cut two tapered shingles out of it. I pulled the sled back, first helper put a 2' board on, I pushed it through maybe 2 seconds-took 20 to 30 seconds on the 14" saw , and other helper took the two shingles off the sled, and stacked them in the truck, that was backed up close to the saw. The sled has safety stops on it, so no hand was every anywhere near the blade.

The finished work can be seen on the Cypress shingles page on my website. This is not a hobby for me. The work is expensive, even at high efficiency. If I wasn't efficient, no one could afford it. I found the Jet to be quite nice and I was feeling very comfortable with a possible purchase. Another dealer had the older Jet 14" on the showroom floor which seemed okay, and the Laguna 14" SUV right next to it which was also okay and I was able to give each a look and touch. Stopping at this point, I was leaning toward the 15" Jet still sight unseen.

Then a complication set in The more I looked, the more I began to like the 18 BX. Following a walk around the store to look at the many goodies the first time I had been there , I stopped back at the machine and conversed with the salesperson. Needless to say, I am giving very serious consideration to the Laguna 18 BX to the point that I think I am leaning toward it.

The search and research continues. Have you made a final decision, Alan? I really miss not having this on my Laguna since I have been using a Laguna 16HD for years that does have it. It's one of those features that if you've never used it no big deal but once you have you will really miss it, at least in my opinion. The ceramic guides are one reason I picked the 14 SUV over other models in this class, of which there really are none, not to me, anyway.

After using the saw for two years I can tell you they are still holding up well and don't show any signs of needing to be replaced. I'm leaning the same way. Northern NM is kind of a no man's land for woodworking machinery, with the exception of Woodworkers Supply in Albuquerque.

I'm not a big fan. I'm heading out to the Felder open house at the end of the month and plan on stopping by Laguna Tools to get a touchy feely with all their bandsaws. Tom King Posted September 24, Posted September 24, Alan G Posted September 24, B1rdhunter Posted September 24, Sensible table features. When resawing, the motor and power train were up to task, although there was some rhythmic vibration that developed. These new saws originate from the Pacific Rim, just as the rest of the test group models do. This newcomer delivered admirable performance in my cutting trials. The veneer I sliced was consistently thick and smooth, and the blade cut it like butter.

I only recovered a handful of dust from the lower housing after resawing was done — a bit more than others, but still very tidy. Laguna equips this saw with its signature ceramic blade guides that help to keep the blade running cool during sawing and wear slowly over time. Two ceramic strips support the blade on each side, and a round puck serves as rear support.

The guides are mounted in aluminum blocks that adjust laterally and tighten with a single thumb screw. A quick-release lever takes tension Laguna 18bx Bandsaw Review Co off the blade between uses — a helpful and increasingly common feature these days. As with the JET, I wish this control was a bigger hand wheel. Blades load fairly easily from a side table slit. The LT18 comes with an aluminum rip fence that adjusts for drift and a tubular front rail. One fussy point about it: you have to loosen the fence body on the clamp with an Allen wrench and slide it back in order to take the fence off the front rail.

At the end of the day, this Laguna is a powerful wood cutter with some nice details. Instead, they sent me the It has a sophisticated variable-frequency drive that activates a motor brake for safety and gives you infinite control over two speed ranges: either 82 to 1, or to 3, feet per minute FPM. Variable-speed control allows you to cut metal, plastics and composites as well as wood for maximum versatility.

The saw is well-appointed with good features: double ball bearing side guides and edge-mounted thrust bearings, large hand wheels for setting blade tension and adjusting tracking, a quick-release blade tension lever in back, and a legible tensioning scale with a viewing window to assist the process.

The hinged upper blade guard and front-mounted table slit gave this saw a leg up for me in terms of easy blade changes. Simple enough.
