Traditional framing using a nail gun to toenail studs sometimes splinters the ends weakening the studs. The pocket holes leaves the stud intact. It takes longer but the results are superior.

The first bit I got broke after the first few holes. Called Kreg customer service and they shipped a new out right away and that one has been going ever since. I've probably drilled holes or so with it and it still cuts kreg hex shank pocket-hole drill bit map. BTW, you can buy either the bit or the bit and jig as a kit and although the drill bits get dull after kreg hex shank pocket-hole drill bit map while, I've never worn out a jig yet and I've drilled a lot of holes with this pockeg-hole it's smaller cousins.

Not sure how this got confused as being the kit as the other fellow indicated. Anyway, if you have an application for drilling pocket holes in 2x lumber, this is hed.

The Kreg Hex Shank Pocket-Hole Drill Bit was designed and constructed with the same rigorous standards as our well-known standard round shank (KJD) drill bit. It features the same stepped bit design, the same high quality construction, but also features a new hex shank which increases hold strength and reduces slippage in the chuck/5(). Kreg will sharpen them but I also wanted to get the hex shank to make it so it would slip in my drill chuck. My original bit got dull after 4 years of heavy use. I have bought a lot of Kreg screws so I know that I have used the drill bit a lot. I also use this with my Snappy tools quick changer so I can drill and then install the screws quicker /5.
