Steam bending is a woodworking technique where wood is exposed to steam to make it pliable. Heat and moisture from steam can soften wood fibres enough so they can be bent and stretched, and when cooled down they will hold their new shape. In modern times, steam bending is usually done with a steam box to make it bend around a former. The moulding process is typically done by clamping wooden strips to a positive form, with the strips of wood often reinforced on the outside with a metal band to prevent. I use my wife's discarded hair curler. It is stuck on High so she can't use it. I soak the wood for mins. Open the jaws stick the wood in and close the jaws.

The heat helps with the bend. The diameter is perfect for every curve I have needed so far 15 or so shipsand can be bent in any direction. They are equipmeng useful for cooking rice and veggies, so be more cost effective than most tools we buy. I just use Chuck's method, a heat gun or blow dryer.

Add water soaking prior to heat if needed. Works well for me. See my post about it from another thread below.
