Condition is good there is some obvious wear from usage. Also some rust however the blades are not broken you have any other questions or an offer please let us know. Imagine that! The old, the carpenters plane 5g, the needy, the poor. Disease is not only born in the body by bacteria and viruses. Today not many of us can even complete the first step. To manage the mind you need an outside agency, the mind cannot manage the mind.

That simple act will go a long way in developing immunity for you from the negativity that is invading us from all sides. A family, society, nation, a culture the whole world can only thrive if built on the foundation of unity.

It does not mean that we have to all be alike. It just means that we have to discover the common factor in all of us. That common factor is our seed, the DNA of love and unity. Our blueprint or DNA is prepared long before we come into existence.

Before the physical body is formed in the womb, this universal DNA given to us by the two universal principles, consciousness and energy, begin their own process of evolution in the Akasha, or ether. That becomes the common blueprint for each individual. That is our common factor. The unseen thread that connects us all. Love is universal.

When we express love and unity we are tapping our universal nature. Love needs no words to express itself. It radiates from within when the human spirit is awakened. Love does not divide us into caste, creed, nationality and gender. It is the uniting force that rises above all distinctions. Wherever there is unity there is love and wherever there is love there is unity.

They are forever together. Both follow one another as well as exist side by side. Equal and opposite, forever United in Love as One, they exist as the seed force within us, transforming into the physical matter of the body. Every cell of our body carries this force. Along with the blood, bones, organs and nerves we are also made up of the force of love and unity.

Conflicts arise when we physically, mentally and emotionally move away from this force. If we act without love and unity we can never be happy or at peace. If we think in a selfish and mean way then we will always feel agitated and nervous. If we engage in emotions of jealousy or hatred we can never feel balanced and equipoised. It is when we turn to Love and unity that a sense of peace prevails.

Today we may have everything but peace still eludes us. Everything we do in life is for peace and happiness but the outcome of our acts, our thoughts, our emotions often does not give us that. If we add the ingredient of love and unity it will at once give us that result. We are born to Love, not to hate.

It is love that will enhance and accelerate our further evolution of mind. We are born to unite not separate. By unity we generate love.

Division and dissensions arise when the love dies. We should not allow love to die in us. Prior to that fire existed but man was not aware of it. The moment he became aware of fire he discovered the missing link from animal to human awareness. Prior to that although human he lived like an animal. Fire was his greatest discovery!

It led him to a life of prosperity and civilisations were born. Knowledge flourished and he became intelligent and intellectual. In course of time, mind and intellect became his armour as well as his foremost tools of expression. The heart receded into the background. Even his love was governed by his mind and intellect. It became less of love and more of selfishness. Personal interest began to get precedence over universal truths.

The feeling of Love and unity began to disappear and die. Although in the race for supremacy we have moved very far away from these divine universal concepts, in order for us to progress and move forward now is the time we have to re-discover them in ourselves. Now is the time for man to take the next quantum leap. A quantum leap in awareness is a superior process of Nature and a momentum for this giant mega leap requires us to realise the forces within ourselves that can carry us through.

They are Love and Unity. This leap of self discovery can begin with just simple little acts of kindness. Through these acts of kindness you will qualify for love and unity. That is how love multiplies and unity is experienced. Love has to be earned, just as you earn riches, fame and comforts.

You cannot demand Love, you have to be worthy of it. Love is true when it has no conditions. Love is sacrifice. Love is surrender. Love is a movement towards the unknown. It is like standing on a cliff ready to jump but you have no idea what you are jumping into. It is the faith that lies in your heart that carries you gently into the mysterious dimension of Love. Love is the most wonderful experience and it is the gateway for the next quantum leap.

Let us discover Love just as our ancestors discovered Fire. Let the discovery of Love be our quantum leap so that we too can enter into a prosperous future. Each one of us is responsible for the level of our own individual consciousness especially because this eventually contributes to the evolution of the collective consciousness of the human race.

So that when we look back we know that we made the right choice. This is the way forward there is no other way!

Peethadhishwari Swami Satyasangananda 1st June What do you do when you are cruising down the highway at top speed and suddenly you come to a road block. If you are unprepared for blocks you will come to a screeching halt. If you spot the roadblocks ahead you will apply the breaks in time. If you are better aware then you will safely take your foot of the accelerator press the clutch and change gears well in time and have a smooth and comfortable journey.

In the same way we, while cruising through life, come across path blocks. The paths we have chosen and are walking on get blocked. How we deal with it depends on the level of our awareness. If we are unprepared we wail and cry at our fate and if we are prepared we deal with the situation properly and effectively. Obstacle management is a skill that everyone has to acquire. It is not enough to be able to cope when everything is smooth sailing and going as we desire.

We must also have the skill to navigate through turbulent waters and come out unscathed. For this we must know how to change gears. How do we live our lives? Do we live it in first, second, third or fourth gear.

How often do we rest in neutral. Do we ever use the brake on life or are we only in accelerator mode all the time? These are questions we have to ask ourselves and be honest with the answer. When you look around you see that most of us are never out of fourth gear.

Even when resting and the body is not active the mind still is. Does it ever stop? It is constantly thinking, imagining, feeling, planning, plotting, judging, liking, dis-liking, reacting and so on. Mental movement is far more taxing and depleting then physical movement. Even when you are supposedly resting in bed, sleeping, your mind is over burdened with the residue of the events that have passed by.

That may be okay, but if you do so, you must also learn to recharge regularly. It simply blinks and dies out. Of course before dying out it gives a few warnings. We too get ample warnings in life of blocks obstacles and dangers lurking ahead on our path.

But do we pay heed to them? Do we slow down, press the clutch and change gears or maybe slip into neutral for some time till they pass us by. The warnings on our collective path in this world are clear, the blocks and obstacles are clear.

It is not disease or the economy or pollution or any such calamity we find ourselves in that is the obstacle. These are only the warning signals. The block is in ourselves. Why is everything crumbling around us. Is it because of circumstances?

But then who created those circumstances. We did, individually as well as collectively. Why is there so much pollution? Because of us! Why is there so much war and strife? Why is there so much sickness and disease? Because of us?

Why is there so much disparity? Why is the ozone layer getting damaged? Why are many important species for the ecosystem of flora and fauna and animal life disappearing? Why are people dying of hunger? Why is there not education for all? Why is there so much anger? As people who live and run this planet we have to feel responsible for that.

Each person has to feel the need to solve the underlying problems we are facing. Not just governments alone. Not just organisations and service centres. That responsibility has to start from the very basics such as I must not spit out in the open. I must use my phone selectively so that the frequencies and vibrations which surround and nourish me are not disturbed.

We have all to become aware of what a great role we have to play in this process. It is a lifelong one. If we realign ourselves everything will restore itself almost magically! But who is going to do it? That is the question? If each person begins to assume his or her role in this great process of re-alignment then the answer would be we ourselves are going to do it.

It should begin with me. I should examine each and everything in my life. Keep what is necessary and discard what is unnecessary and that includes ideas and opinions and feelings and judgements too. Re-aligning oneself amounts to acquiring the ability to change gears.

We have to become skilled in changing gears according to the need and situation. When the path is clear by all means move into fourth, fifth, sixth or seventh gear but also know the knack of slowing down to first, second or third gear or maybe even rest in neutral when needed.

In fact it can be a time to recharge and re-align our energies for greater clarity, focus, mindfulness, purpose and direction in our lives. It can be a time for healing. It can be a time to become more self-reliant. Slowing down results in a more integrated and balanced personality rather than living life at fast pace all the time. People get alarmed at the thought of slowing down. I wonder what is there to get so alarmed about something which will be beneficial to us.

Changing of gears not only allows re-charging it also offers us a new perspective, view and a broader vision of life. It reveals the larger picture. A well oiled machine easily slips in and out of gears, in the same way we too should be adept in shifting ourselves to different hemispheres of our brain. Slowing down entails awakening hemispheres of your brain you may have never explored before. This brings about a subtle awakening in us which enlightens us about ourselves.

Our brains are wired in such a way that this skilful movement between hemispheres is easily possible. But it needs practise and this practise has to be undertaken in all the different situations we face in life. It has to have a practical application and not just remain a mental one of inner experience. When your mind is agitated, when you are confronted with difficulties, when you are sad and disappointed or angry and bitter can you switch gears and become content and calm or happy and peaceful?

This is the test you have to conduct on yourself. How skilfully can one change gears that is the challenge that each individual has the responsibility to fulfill. We speak of the left and right as the two major hemispheres that govern the mental and physical activities of man.

But what about the psychic and spiritual hemispheres of your brain and mind. It is when we can navigate with ease in all dimensions that we develop into balanced and integrated personality. Sadness, desolation, anxiety, stress, fear, insecurity, hatred, envy, pride are not permanent mental experiences. One can come out of them by changing gears. Some require you to slow down and some require you to speed up.

If you are skilled you will know. To slow down you have to let go of all that is unnecessary. Suddenly an obstacle arrives. To overcome it you will have to re-examine yourself and where you have gone wrong and cut off all the unnecessary stuff that has brought about this condition. The condition we find ourselves in today is an upside down and topsy-turvy world.

There is disease and dissension, angst and aggression, challenges and chaos, hope and compassion, effort and commitment, fear and insecurity. We certainly are carrying a lot of baggage. Slowing down helps us to unburden ourselves of the overload.

This is very very important. Unless we learn to change gears when needed and unburden ourselves we will suffer burn out! Imagine that! In that sense this time when we have literally been forced to slow down is a very valuable opportunity for us.

In that sense I would not call it a lockdown rather I would call it an opening. Locked doors are opening within us, and we are re-discovering ourselves. We are becoming more versatile, skilled and self-confident. Facing challenges does not make us weak, it makes us self-confident. But even after this time is over we should each one of us find ways to slow ourselves down and function from other hemispheres of our brain as well.

Some may choose music and dance, others wild-life and nature. Some may choose yoga others mantra. To be creative in life engage yourself in opportunities to Serve, Love and Give. Love is the most creative principle. When you love something it draws out your most creative dimension, which is the field of the heart. To overcome the negative swirls we often find ourselves in we must awaken our hearts.

Emotions influenced by heart are different to the emotions influenced by mind. Emotions arising from the heart are divine in nature. Forgiveness is a divine emotion, it arises from the heart. The mind will never allow you to forgive and if it does it would be for some selfish interest. Faith lives in the heart, so does belief. The seat of the most cherished emotion LOVE is in the heart. Peace, happiness, devotion, illumination, effulgence, clarity, focus emanate from the heart.

Now more than ever is the time to awaken Love in our hearts. Pure, unadulterated and selfless love. This is what mankind needs at this tragic moment in our history.

Love heals, love mends, love revives. It is the Amrit-Sanjeevani or the immortal life nectar which we must drink to save ourselves. He showed us the way to live a life for others. He said it was the need of the hour as well a Yoga Sadhana just as all the Yoga Sadhanas that he gave to the world such as Hatha yoga, Raja yoga, Gyana yoga, Kundalini yoga, Kriya yoga.

He called it the Yoga of the 21st century. In doing so he was fulfilling the mandate of his Guru Sivananda who gave Gurudev the universal vision of Atmabhava. I call it the Yoga of Creativity. It can also be called the Yoga of Productivity. When you spend your time serving others with love you are using time productively.

The Art of Giving with love is the Art of Living. Discover it for yourself by joining in acts of serve love and give to draw out your creativity and humane qualities. We may be human but are we humane?

This human life is futile unless we make this discovery in ourselves and now is the time to begin. Virus and Vibration. Life is a journey and journeys always have an unknown mysterious and exciting element about them. A journey is an exploration, a discovery about an unknown entity. The journey of life is also an exploration in that sense. We start this journey at birth when we do not know anything at all about the world, country, religion, situation, family or future we have entered into.

The only strength we possess at this time is that of faith and belief in all that we see around us. So our journey begins with faith. We end this journey with faith too, at death, as even death is an act of faith, a surrender to the unknown.

So it can be said that faith and belief are the substratum of our lives. When we lose faith in something it dies in us and takes along with it some part of us as well, as something dies in us as well. In that case, it is important to guard and protect ones faith, belief and hope. For as long as they are alive in us we cannot die. The day hope dies, we die too. And where does hope lie? Does it lie in wealth, status, luxury and comfort or does it lie elsewhere?

Hope also lies in belief of others. In fact, Hope lies in the belief that we are not alone, we have not arrived here by accident. Hope lies in little acts of kindness. Hope lies in goodness. Hope lies in the heart. From the heart it percolates to the mind and permeates it. In the mind hope reveals itself as inspiration, love, joy, unity, peace, happiness and all their derivatives. Disease is not only born in the body by bacteria and viruses.

It is born in the mind too when hope, faith and belief die. Diseases born of the mind are somo-psychic and far more pervasive if they begin to affect the body. You can develop a vaccine for the virus or bacteria that invade the body but what is the vaccine for the virus that invades the mind.

Along with hygiene and sanitization of the body, we also have to think about the hygiene and sanitization of the heart and mind. The heart gets sanitized by simple acts of serve, love and give. As the love grows in your heart your heart becomes pure and you are inspired to serve and give.

This brings about an immediate re-charging and re- energizing of your energy body and energy field. You are at once renewed with fresh energy which is filled with hope, faith and belief and the will to fulfil your dreams.

In order to sanitize your mind, so that no virus invades and destroys your mental equilibrium, you will have to turn to the subtle energy field of the heart. For, it is the heart alone, that can manage the mind and restore its true homogenous vibration.

Whenever the negative influence of mind overpowers you, perform a simple small act of kindness. At once your mind will soften and correct itself. To manage the mind you need an outside agency, the mind cannot manage the mind. That outside agency is the heart. It is only the heart that can manage the erroneous and erratic tendencies of the mind.

Awaken your heart if you want to be a master of your mind and experience its total potential. What is disease? It is a state where your ease and comfort is disturbed, so it is called disease. Our ease and comfort are destroyed not just by physical discomfort but by mental and emotional discomfort as well.

So we have to see ourselves not just as a physical body but as a mental and emotional body as well. Beyond these, there is the spiritual body that we are composed of. Our exploration of life should thus not just be an outer one but an inner one as well. Know your Self. As you begin this inner exploration of the physical, mental, emotional and spiritual bodies that you are made up of, you will begin to recognize the underlying thread which runs through these four bodies.

That thread is prana or energy. Together these five bodies constitute the totality of an individual. In Tantra and Yoga they are known as annamayakosha-physical body, pranamayakosha — energy body, manomayakosha- mental body, vigyanmayakosha- emotional body and anandamayakosha- spiritual body.

The underlying thread is pranayama kosha or pranic body which interweaves itself, thus permeating and energizing all the four bodies.

Prana is energy. It is the etheric body; Ether is the last stage of matter beyond solid, liquid and gas. It is called bio plasma. Bio means life and plasma is that subtle state of matter when it is vibrating with ionized particles of both positive and negative energy.

In combatting disease rejuvenating the pranic field and restoring the balance of the positive and negative particles at once begin to show positive signs of recovery of health and well- being.

When looking at how to deal with problems of health along with the physical body one must also find ways to treat this imbalance in prana. Energy is greatly influenced by vibrations. This is because energy is vibration. You can say that energy is matter in vibration. This physical body is also matter vibrating at a particular frequency which can be measured in Hz. When this vibration drops due to any reason such as stress or tension, fatigue or chronic ailments then our immunity drops and we become vulnerable to infection and disease.

The mind too is matter which when in its optimum state vibrates at a particular frequency. When there is grief or fear, hatred or envy, pride or ego then the vibration of the mind drops and we are invaded by mental afflictions such as negativity and depression.

There are many ways to come out of this disturbed state of mind. One can restore the vibration of the mind by simple acts of kindness and generosity. Gratitude for all that we have and compassion for the have-nots.

These are techniques to heal the mind. Every vibration has a sound and color. Grief produces a resonance in us which is its sound and it has a color too. This is why we are deeply affected by sound and color; just like the mind, the heart too has a vibrationary rate. The heart that is soft and tender and melts at another difficulty resonates with the sound of purity and is a golden heart. Such a heart lends a very high vibrationary rate to the individual and is able to resist the lowering of vibration by any virus of body or mind.

There are so many ways to re-charge and re-energize your vibration. In his age, the great rishi Patanjali gave the eightfold steps of yama, niyama, asana, pranayama, pratyahara, dharana, dhyana and samadhi. Perhaps the man of that time was competent to follow those steps. Today not many of us can even complete the first step.

But if one can, even one step is a sure and certain way to raise your frequency. Along with the challenge we are facing of food and shelter we are also facing the challenge of how to remain happy. The mood swings we face constantly deplete our vibrationary power. In the course of twenty fours of our day how many mood swings do we have. Make a note of it and you will be surprised at the number. At one moment we are happy and at the next, we are sad and full of grief; or tense and fearful.

Will this not affect our health and well-being? Of course, it will. We all know and believe that we should be good and do good to others but are often unable to when negative vibrations overpower us.

Our surroundings, our way of life all contribute to this invasion of negativity that we may find ourselves indespite our best efforts.

At that time we may need some additional help to pull us out of the negative swirl or black hole that starts swallowing us. One of the most effective and immediate ways in influencing energy is sound.

This can be seen in how fast and greatly music influences our moods and responses. At once you begin to flow with the vibrations of the music. In order to influence the pranic field and restore its ratio count of positive and negative ions you need subtler sounds that can penetrate beyond the physical body to the otherkoshas or bodies that constitute our being.

In yoga and tantra there is a profound study on the science of sound and its level of penetration. This study is known as the science of mantras. Mantras are sound energy capsules. Some act as mild saridon or dispirin, others are stronger like anti-biotics, yet others are like cortisone and coramine or life-saving drugs. There are millions of mantras and each has a seer who heard that mantra in deep inner states of meditation.

Mantras are realized, they are not the products of thought or the conscious mind. Although countless and innumerous, each mantra has its own power and efficacy and can never fail in producing the desired result. When activated they penetrate deep into the layers of your being sanitizing, purifying and oxygenating each one of them.

Thus a transformation is felt in ones total well-being. There are mantras that overcome fear, stress, anxiety, depression and all sorts of negative emotions that often take a hold on us.

Maha Mrtyunjaya mantra allays difficulties of every kind. The Siddha kunjika mantra which I call the positivity mantra attracts positivity in all dimensions of our life. It can be chanted for protection from any disease that assails one-self and the world at large.

For the man of tomorrow, whose problem is the mind, Swami Satyananda, a great rishi of our times, advocated Mantra and Seva. By practising these at once the pranas are balanced and the peace and happiness, faith and belief are restored. You can practice mantra anywhere at any time except when you are driving.

Even when you are sick and lying in bed you can repeat the mantra; this will aid the healing process by rejuvenating the koshas or sheaths that compose your entire being whether physical, mental, emotional, psychic, karmic or spiritual. From the mightiest galaxy down to the tiniest bacteria or virus, everything in this creation emerges out of spandan or vibration.

Since we are born out of vibration it is but natural that vibrations have a deep and immediate effect on us. A mere sound vibration can shatter glass or start an avalanche. In the same way a sound vibration can release us from stress and anxiety and bring us peace and calm. Today there is a branch of medicine that is called quantum therapy which speaks of energetic medicine. Mantras do much the same thing by generating a specific energy field as per the requirement and need of the individual.

Energy is all pervading and thus has a far reaching effect as it is able to penetrate into the deepest recesses of our being. Just as water irrigates every bit of the earth finding its way into the darkest corners of the earth where even light cannot reach, in the same way sound energy reaches the innermost dimensions where nothing else can reach, filling us up with positive healing vibrations until we are fully irrigated and nourished.

Saundarya Lahari is a most efficient mantra shastra revealed by Adi Guru Shankaracharya. It gives many prayogas or techniques by which one can overcome afflictions of every kind.

It covers all the suffering that man may face whether adi- bhautik, physical, adi-daivik, psychic or adhyatmik, spiritual. In the mechanical age in which we live, it is mantra that can take us out of the gravity that keeps pulling us down and bring about an ascent of awareness. At this time invoking the grace of Shakti or the Cosmic Energy from which everything emanates, even a virus or bacteria, will allow her compassion to flow to us, which is what mankind needs at this time.

We need kindness and compassion, love and empathy, unity, devotion, surrender. In short we need Bhakti. It is only Bhakti that can save us from ourselves. Food alone does not feed us. It is love that feeds us too. It is love we need. Anyone can give us food but who will give us love?

It is love that will allow us to flourish and prosper. In the absence of love, food is not tasty, the home is not happy, the air feels stale, and we become strangers to each other and eventually to ourselves. What we need is a Prem Avatar, who can awaken our hearts and show us how to Love. Let us pray that we get lucky! Along with all types of sanitization that are recommended we should also upgrade ourselves a bit and sanitize our hearts and minds as well!

Perhaps that is one of the lessons we can learn from a great tragedy that has occurred for human life on planet Earth. Today let us choose to be Self-restrained Self-reliant and Self-Confident. Peethadhishwari Swami Satyasangananda Saraswati 5th May What is foremost on our minds today is safety and protection. We have armed ourselves with soaps, masks, sanitizers, and shields, adopting standards of hygiene which are essential for health and well-being.

Washing hands has now become the favorite occupation for all of us. Amongst families where earlier there was disinterest in doing household chores now there is a rush to wash the dishes or the clothes and clean the house or cook the food and chop the vegetables. This is the most relaxing way to spend your time as well as the most useful way to keep washing your hands and protect yourself. If there are others around it is essential to wear a mask as well.

This protects you further. You can make the mask yourself or just cover your nose and mouth with the beautiful angavastras you have received at Rikhia during your many memorable visits. I wonder what will happen when summer is at its peak and the taps run dry. So they know very well how to manage with the least amount of water. If they need water, it is for their fields.

If they can get that they need little else as their needs are very few. Personal hygiene is a basic requirement for protecting oneself from any disease and one of the best habits one can inculcate. And this should start in childhood right from the very beginning. This one quality alone, Shaucha, cleanliness, can make everything you do impactful. They say cleanliness is next to Godliness that is why it leaves an impact.

It touches you. Yogic lifestyle gives great importance to shaucha. So let us resolve to be clean. It is always good to make a sankalpa or resolve when you start something good and auspicious. To be clean is the new fashion trend which Rikhia upholds all the time and Rikhia is a trendsetter. The next armor we have which is the strongest and most effective one is social distancing.

Many do not like this word or the idea it connotes. But I feel very comfortable with this word. Because I have seen Swami Satyananda live that life here in Rikhia. He totally distanced himself and lived in isolation.

The difference is that he lived that life voluntarily; he chose to live in isolation. We on the other hand have adopted social distancing because we had no choice.

Perhaps we had to, because it was mandatory, or out of fear, or to protect ourselves from disease. Whatever the reason behind it we should realize that separation does not mean dis-connection.

Paramahansaji lived in isolation, but he did not dis-connect. Instead his isolation connected him with others in a much deeper and profound way. It can be called an Atmic connection or in modern terms an Atomic connection. This is what I learnt from him that distancing does not mean separation.

In fact the connection can be made stronger. Stronger ties can be forged. There is a saying. Swamiji never met anyone while he lived in RIkhia. He did not meet the villagers or talk to them. But the connection and bond he developed with them was strong and deep so that even today long after his Samadhi he is still alive in their hearts.

Connection is born out of love, care and trust, not physical proximity. He cared for them. We too should care for one another whether we are related or not. That was his teaching to us. Learn to care for others. Serve others selflessly. Love without any boundaries. Give with an open heart. He did not say it just in a moral sense but in the context of a personal as well as social sense as well. You begin to receive the protection, the support, the strength and a path opens before you.

Along with soaps and sanitizers, this too can become your armor to protect yourself and lead to the discovery of a way to overcome any difficulty. Swamiji used to tell me, whenever you get an opportunity to help another, think that God has showered his special blessing on you. An opportunity has fallen in your path to rise above your difficulties. As soon as you begin to think of others your difficulties will begin to fade and disappear.

Good ideas will come to you, good associations will come your way, and good opportunities will find their way to you. This will give birth to Self-confidence or Atma-vishwas. It is lack of self-confidence which generates fear and causes us to falter. Fear makes us weak and indecisive. It confuses us and we lose clarity and focus. Self-confidence gives inner strength, balance and equanimity.

When there is atma-vishwas or self-confidence, fear vanishes. This is an armor which should be invoked as well. To develop Self-confidence or Atman-vishwas we have to become self-reliant or atma-nirbhar. What this time has taught us is self-reliance. The tremendous resilience of the human spirit to meet challenges of every kind and not lose hope or cease to dream is what makes each one of us self-reliant.

It is a very important quality or trait that we are developing in ourselves at this time of immense tragedy that we see around us.

It is a blessing in disguise. This is the time to become self-reliant and take responsibility for our own health and well-being. To become self-reliant you have to develop self-restraint or atma-sanyam. This time when we are forced to remain indoors is a good introductory lesson of self-restraint for all of us.

We should utilize this lesson to become strong and not weak out of fear or anxiety about what will happen. Self-restraint leads to simplicity and purity. If we live life with simplicity and purity we will be healthy and strong. So, Atma-vishwas, Atma-nirbhar and Atma-sanyam are also armors which we should think about at this time for self-protection. In a social context too how long can one ignore the fire that is raging out-side.

One day it will scathe all of us by entering our homes and our lives. To extinguish it then may not be possible. So the onus is on each one of us. To put the fire out is the responsibility of each and every one.

To look after those in need is not just a social necessity but the clarion call which emerged from Rikhia of a Paramahansa. It is an enormous task because those in need far outnumber those who are not in dire need. It is good to care for the world we live in and those who inhabit it but more than that it is the need of the hour. Every challenge, every difficulty comes with a lesson.

As soon as the lesson is learnt the difficulty begins to disappear because the purpose for which it came has been fulfilled. If the lesson is not heeded it will return again perhaps with greater force.

This is a law of Nature. So it is imperative that we pay attention to the lesson that we are receiving from Prakriti or Mother Nature. If you look around you will see the wonderful display of Prakriti or Mother Nature. Just open your eyes to the beauty Nature is displaying all around us at this time. This is a time for healing. Prakriti is restoring and actively helping us at this time by cleaning and energizing the land, water, air, and ether or space that we inhabit along with all other beings.

There is a great integration taking place between Mother Nature or Prakriti and her creation and we are part of that chain. The flora and fauna has acquired a new look, a new hue, a new radiance.

The flowers glisten, sing and speak to us now. Plants that may have been decaying are coming alive again. Animals and birds that are not caged in homes are out with their families in parks and swimming-pools, visiting bars and restaurants, malls, cinemas and salons. You may say they are coming out of hiding and reclaiming their space, which we had invaded upon. It is a wondrous spectacle which compels every sensitive human being to introspect on where we have gone wrong.

We do not have to be afraid, we have to take precautions. Do not have fear, have faith. It is faith and belief that makes us positive, strong, self-confident and self-reliant. Eventually we have to look within and introspect, we have to pick and choose what is necessary to sustain life not destroy it. Sickness, disease is an outcome of erroneous living which can be corrected and rectified if we give importance to the lesson that the sickness brings with it.

Now when the whole word is re-booting and re-setting itself, let us emerge out of this calamity with the values and sense of purpose that will help us preserve life rather than destroy it.

Let us not accept anything less than that. The responsibility for this does not lie with governments alone, but on each and every one of us. We are responsible for the world we live in. We make it into a living hell or a beautiful heaven. The tendency we have is to always wait and hope that someone will come along and do this for us. There is a saying that God helps those who help themselves. There is a lesson out there for each one of us from Mother Nature, who in Her most magnanimous way, along with teaching us, is also guiding and assisting us at this time.

The alarm has rung. Those who remain asleep will repent later, so pay heed to the alarm. Develop Self-restraint, be Self-reliant and become Self-confident. One Precious Moment.

Time is fleeting. Yesterday has gone and who knows whether we will see tomorrow? Nothing is permanent, everything changes — the seasons change, the weather changes, our moods change, the mind changes. You yourself can observe this, second by second, everything changes. Time is very precious, and one should not waste it. Those who waste time are ignorant of the reality of life.

A moment passes and it is gone forever, it is lost. And if you are not aware, you may have lost the most important moment, the chance to connect with the Self, with the divinity which is all around you. Every moment of your life is important, but there are some moments in time that are rare and very precious. It is precisely this particular type of moment that we observe during Guru Bhakti Yoga at Rikhiapeeth.

On these two special days we remember the moment a great yogi, Gurudev Paramahansa Satyananda, attained Yoga Samadhi. Every month we honour that moment, and in doing so we connect with that higher, all-pervading power. This is how we evolve. We speak about evolution, we speak about growth, about development, but do we understand what that means?

You invest your money, you think about the many ways in which you can grow richer. But how do you invest your time? I am not speaking about your external life. For the growth of the intellect your work, your studies, your academics are all important. But you have to invest your time in the inner growth as well. That is evolution, and it is for this purpose that we observe Guru Bhakti Yoga on the 5th and 6th of every month.

We connect with the moment when this great event took place here at Rikhiapeeth. Yoga Samadhi is a exceptionally rare achievement, and when we align ourselves with that moment in time then we are uplifted, and we can receive the Grace. We all want the Grace, but do we qualify for it? Just as you have to qualify to become a doctor or an engineer or a lawyer or a teacher, and it takes many years of effort, in the same way you have to qualify to receive the Grace.

Even if Guru wants to shower Grace on you, he cannot do it until you are worthy of it, until you deserve it. That is the cosmic law. You become worthy of receiving the Grace by making an effort and by being sincere. You must be dedicated and committed, and you cannot swerve from the path. Many things come in life to distract you, to dissipate your mind.

The mind suggests to you many things which distract you from the path that you have chosen. But as long as you make the effort, as long as you are sincere and dedicated, and very serious about it at all times, you will stay on the path, even in times of challenge and difficulty.

Hold onto your joy and your happiness. Whether it is physical, mental or emotional, psychic, spiritual or karmic, everybody has to face challenges, and the teaching of Sri Swamiji was that in every situation one should remain calm, peaceful and happy. You may be very sick or be financially depleted, you may have no future prospects, but even that is not the end of the world.

The end of the world is when you have lost your faith and your hope, when you have lost sight of your goal. When this happens you can consider that the end of the world has actually come.

If you can do that even in the most challenging situations, then the Grace will surely shower on you. We live in the world, so we must interact with others all the time.

But how should we live in this world? Right now we live like ordinary people, experiencing anger, frustration, sorrow and joy. There is no use asking for Grace until we can change the way we think and respond in our daily interactions. To do this, we have to live like a yogi. How does a yogi live in the world?
