Old grease gums up and hardens, making some mechanisms difficult to function properly. Use a solvent degreaser to remove all the old lubricant and apply applicable suitable lubes. You can obtain the degreasers from an auto supply store. If you have been working on a large project or working with tougher stock you may find that your motor may stall. Just meaning that it stops. It will need to cool down in order to be able to start up again.

Try replacing your blade. A sharper blade will be more efficient for the motor. If your motor keeps stalling then it might be warning you that the time for replacement is near. There are really not too many problems that you can have with your radial arm saw motor. You can replace a few of the parts over time, and make sure that you are cutting with a sharp blade, but when the time comes for replacement you may just need to give in.
