The holes were too tight, so multiple screws were stripped just trying to drive them. They also wore out incredibly quickly, and needed to be replaced multiple times over the past couple if years of use.

In addition, there is a Kreg Jig 45 Degree Miter Number peg that you put into holes to secure the gauge into a number of preset angles I tried twisting it with pliers with no luck, and tried tapping it out from behind to no avail.

Finally, I ended up having to pull it out with a claw hammer, mangling the head, and slightly bending the miter bar in the process. Now, this peg won't actually fit into holes anymore, and the turn-to-tighten handle isn't strong enough to hold an angle. Unless you are super-duper delicate, the flip down portion can tilt sideways, making the cuts in accurate.

As of a few minutes ago, I ended up spending more money and ordered the Incra SE. It's design eliminates all of the issues I mention above, and I will be tearing down the Kreg basically just for the t-slot bar to make something else out of the parts. I use stops on my cut off saw to ensure exact reproducable cuts and I also use a ripping jig on my table saw to ensure I have an exact straight edge to cut my 45s from. I am joining the panels together as a box. I don't believe you can actually get a nice solid joint with a pocket hole jig in this situation. I tried in the garage for hours. I beleive the best soluion I heard so far was from you Robert and that is the lock miter router bit.

All the other replies are assuming you are making a picture frame miter. A half lap miter won't work for panels. The kreg screw packages has the propper screw length for the thickness of material you are using. The other tip is when setting the depth for your drill bit to have the handle of the jig all the way forward so as to clear the clamping part of the jig. Learned that one from a couple of blown holes. I love my Jig and I use it all the time in my operation.
