I found that in order to get the dovetailed joints to fit together, each joint on each piece of wood 12 pieces had to be carefully sanded to remove stray wood fibers and to smooth the joint surfaces.

I sanded all edges and both sides of the dovetails on each piece of wood. In addition I sanded the drawer bottom slot sides. Also, I used an orbital sander to slightly bevel all sides of the large bottom sheet on both sides so that the bottom sheet would fit into the slots when building the finished drawer. I did use wood glue as per the directions in the assembly video. The assembled drawers look good now and are ready to accept stain and final top coat.
