Ever wondered if "salad bowl finish" is food safe? Seems straight-forward, right? Surprise! Not so fast.  When I talk with other turners and hear different points of view about a good wood bowl finish, the answers run the gamut. I have heard from several sources the following statement, “any wood finish is food safe once it is cured.” Hm?  I can not recommend Salad Bowl Finish by General Finishes, not just because it doesn’t exist under that name anymore, but because it is not food safe for use with salad bowls.
