Thread starter littlecanoe Start date Feb 6, I picked up this blank yesterday. I have no desire to have a gut hook blade bit though of cutting the hook off for a nice drop point. This blank will be my jumping off into stock removal. YouTube will be my friend as I research and study techniques and tips.

My initial thought is to bring the shoulders for the tang further toward the point and cut off the gut hook. That part will be easy. Squaring the shoulders for the guard will take some care. So I'd not work all the way back down the spine to the tang - you'd give up some nice weight behind the edge that way, and the stamp is centered on the present width. THe screw together pins are too short. I made a second knife with solid brass pins. Much better. I bought this product for a gift. The knife blade seems to be made of good steel but the bolts that hold the handle on are not very good. You cannot torque the bolts down very tightly without stripping the hexagon shaped hole in the bolt. Once this hole has been stripped it is very difficult to remove the handle even if you wanted to.
