Milwaukee Tool Workbench Vises – Lake Erie Toolworks

I do quite a lot of work with wworkbench boards and small mechanical parts and was finding the 'helping hands' crocodile clip type tool quick release vise for workbench web fiddly and a bench vice too big for my needs, so after a bit of thought I designed my own light duty 3D ror vice with a novel tension and release method.

To clampinsert the workpiece into the jaws, pull the elastic cord through the slot to a suitable tension then pull the cord down to lock. To releasesimply pull the cord up. The tension on the elastic wwb eased and the workpiece freed. STL files for the three parts are attached. If you do not have access to a 3D printer but want to build this project you could use one of the many printing companies who will print one-offs for a reasonable price.

You can upload the STL files to them and receive a completed print back in a few days. The obvious choice of material for the print for releqse, anyway is PLA, due to its rigidity, 'slippiness' and low shrinkage. Nylon would be stronger but as this is only intended for Quick Release Vise For Sale 2019 light use, PLA is adequate for the quick release vise for workbench web. If your printer has trouble with bridging then support underneath the roof of the 34mm recesses in the base would be a good idea.

Mine printed fine without. My 'magic formula' for adhering the first layer workbenfh a print is a strong sugar solution. I've just changed from clear to frosted glass and finding the same adhesion but a better finish on the contact layer, so I'm happy with that.

My first prototype of this was almost spot on and the only changes Quick Release Vise For Workbench Crack I made to the final version quick release vise for workbench Quick Release Vise For Workbench Online web to add a small round to spread the forces on the base vertical, a centre-post in the bottom recess to centre the washers and to narrow the cord gripping jaws slightly.

I initially had a cut-out in the jaws to hold a PCB but found this was unnecessary once I added the neoprene. Neoprene is a dense rubber and should last a while quick release vise for workbench web long as it's not overheated e. Not vital, but gives more of a non-slip to the vice. Mine came from a small network switch box. Alternatively use a bit of the neoprene releaae above.

If not, eBay or the local hardware shop will. The only thing I had to buy was the neoprene rubber sheet. Once assembled the slide should move freely along the base of the vice; the exact dimensions give a 0.

However, depending on how well your printer is set up you may well find that the slide. Fear not, but do not force the parts otherwise they may jam immovably. First of all, check the edges of the slide bottom layer. Depending on your gelease layer nozzle height, this may be squashed out slightly to give adhesion to the print bed and need a bit of quick release vise for workbench web or trimming with a blade.

Also check for over-extrusion at the edges. This will make all the difference. Now slowly and carefully work the slide backwards and forwards along the base and you will feel things beginning to ease. On quick release vise for workbench web two I made Quick Release Vise For Workbench Installation the slide will move from end qhick end under gravity alone. I found it's tidier to cut the split piece to size before attaching, rather than sticking it on then trying to cut out the middle section.

Remove the backing and attach to the jaws of the vice. A bit of glue will stop the knot from pulling out and keep it in the recess. This will stop the slide from coming off the end when not in use. Trim off the excess length. Although the vice works perfectly well, it would be nice to not have the cord slot in the middle of the quick release vise for workbench web. To that end I'm working on a redesign of the cord grip which will retain the simplicity and effectiveness of the vice but not have the split jaws.

First pass for this is to simply turn the slot through 90 degrees but I think this can be improved upon workbennch a button-press locking mechanism. I will reease the Instructable once this is working.

Very slick! I needed something just like this quick release vise for workbench web soldering. I also shamelessly copied your ideas to make a small clamp that I needed - see. Nice design. One idea for a locking mechanism that does not use a slot.

Or use a wedge shape. The cord goes thru and stays in place when the lock is inserted. You should post in the metal contest as better then Nu-Metal replacing the washers with Pb washer feet. Reply 3 years ago. I bought my printer a Wanhao Duplicator 4 four years ago and haven't kept up with the current models. From what I've seen there hasn't been any massive improvement, although many now have automatic build-plate quick release vise for workbench web. There's a few more print materials to choose from nowadays, although I've always used PLA as it gives good results quick release vise for workbench web is easiest to work with.

What printer would you recommend? AndyGadget iceng Reply 3 years ago. Thanks Iceng. I hadn't thought about the non-metallic aspect before. Very elegant. Very simple. Since I cant print parts, wood would do fine. This is my best complement. It is very difficult to make simple designs. I like the simple "lock" mechanism using elastic cord. Very clever!! Nice Vise. I think I will print one. It looks very handy for fine work.

Jun 29,  · Things to know: • A quick-release jaw lets you move the vise in or out without a lot of turns of the handle. • A pop-up stop on some face vises eliminates the need to drill a doghole in the movable jaw. • The longer the handle, the more leverage you can apply to the vise.
