You can find shorter screws at your hardware store! Just take the longer one in, and you can match the width to one that's shorter. You can get a pack of maybe six or so for a couple of bucks. I've had to do that several times over the years. They do knobs and pulls hobby lobby ed long screws!

I have just left them, but haven't used them on dressers with clothes in them that would get snagged. I knobs and pulls hobby lobby ed one as a hook in my kitchen and used my wire cutter with a cutter for screws as well to cut it down.

I put six of them on a small dresser that I use in my wrapping center and three of knobs and pulls hobby lobby ed had the lucite bar fall out of gold! But man are they pretty I've never thought to look there for knobs and pulls hobby lobby ed, but good to know!
