Here is a traditional Chinese grindstone. The wooden base was designed by a Chinese architect. I built, handplaned the construction and waxed it. The form was so odd, I had to build a jig for gluing it up. The crank has ball bearings for a longer life.

The original cranks would just have a round fine woodworking kumiko 8th acting as a pivot. In my opinion that would have worn down too fast. The grindstone is used for soybeans.
