I used this jig for the first time to construct a 4 poster bed for my granddaughter, I practised a few times and set it up for my material which was 38mm thick. The joints pulled in well and finished nice and square. More expensive units give you an option to drill at a greater angle for thicker materials but are a lot more expensive.

This did it for me. It is important when drilling the drill bit enters the hole of the jig squarely to prevent metal being cut away from the top of the jig. Draw the bit in and out a few times when drilling to clear wood dust. Remember for soft woods use a coarse screw and practise with screw lengths to get the best depth into the joining piece.

Images in this review. I looked at both this and the Kreg jigs as a handy pocket-hole joinery solution for a project I'm working on. Not knowing Kreg as a company I went for the Trend because I've always been happy with their products in the past, and I was drawn to the all-metal construction of the Trend over the Kreg's plastic.

While the Trend is very well made and offers decent value when you consider what's included in the box, after using it for a while it quickly became clear that it has a couple of serious design issues that badly compromise its usefulness.

The most critical is the lack of any way to adjust the height of the drill holes relative to the base. One way around that is to make pocket-holes on both sides of the wood, but that's not always practical or desirable. Kreg solved this by allowing the user to set the height Trend Pocket Hole Jig Setup of the screw guide block by sliding it up and down. The Trend's second issue is that, while it's useful that you can set the registration between the two screw guides to vary the space between pocket holes, there's no way to centre either one of them relative to the clamp's face.

This means that, if you want to create a single pocket hole in the centre of a narrow piece of wood, you're going to struggle as your material will be offset to one side of the clamp and is unlikely to be held securely. Of course, you can use an external clamp to secure the material against the jig, but that rather defeats the purpose of having a jig with a built-in clamp in the first place.

Again, this is a solved problem with the Kreg where they simply included a centred guide in the block. I've since bought both the standard Kreg and the HD for thicker woods, and they're just better thought out designs. Also the quality of plastics used in their construction is high, so I wouldn't be put off by that again. Having a Kreg portable pocket hole jig and a Kreg decking jig plus numerous of there clamps which serves me well.

Anyway it ended up in the wardrobe and six months later I took it out of the box to day. The clamp that was with it is cheap and nasty looking. All the little bits for use with the jig where in a plastic bag. It also has measured guides ingrained in the case. Now I know Trend have brought out a newer version which has added storage but I had already got this. Save a few bob extra and get a Kreg K series.

I brought this to help make a computer table. I saw it demonstrated at Screwfix live, so knew what it could do already. It is very easy to use, and boy, does it make basic woodwork construction easy! We made the table frame in minutes!

Build quality is very good too, all metal construction. I looked at other cheaper products out there, and opted to pay the extra for this. The built in clamp is worth it alone, as this is quite possibly what makes it such a quick item to use. We used loose on the work bench, but it does have screw holes to fix it down. I guess if you were using it for light manufacturing ie. Once you have set the clamp for the depth of wood you are using I was using 19mm spruce and 18mm MDF it takes seconds to clamp the wood in place then drill the holes.

Trend mm Pocket Hole Jig is rated 4. Add to saved list I did check out a video in advance. Once I had understood the instructions, I tried a couple of trial holes on scrap timber -really pleased by the clean results.
