It tested "starving" the joint of glue with a tight joint IMHO this may also replicate too much clamp force whichrobs a joint of glue. The other end of the scale is the sloppy fit which measure gap-filling. Here's the video that went with the article..
Howard, thanks for bringing up Titebond Extend. This is Titebond's explanation of it.. It offers superior performance in a broad range of applications, including edge and face gluing. It is particularly useful in complex operations such as curved railings and other assemblies that require more time to align. Titebond Extend develops a bond stronger than wood itself, offers excellent sandability and is unaffected by finishes.
It is compatible with all common species of wood, as well as particleboard, MDF, plywood and other porous materials. Alan Carruth. I had not heard of the 'Extend' version: I'll have to check that out. I know one guitar maker who uses only T-3, so I guess it works. I tried T-2 once, but it didn't seem to have the peel resistance that 'Regular' Titebond does.
These glues are not really soluble in water. In the bottle they're a suspension of glue drops in water, rather like the water-based finishes.
On the surface the water evaporates and the glue drops all stick together. The glue itself is not water soluble. My experience doing repairs was that putting water on a Titebond joint resulted in the wood going to mush before the glue would let go.
These glues do let go at about F 60C, if I did the math right , and I know that's about right from experience.
Ever see a hammered dulcimer that was left in the back seat of a closed car in the sun? Another way to get white and yellow glue lines apart in a more timely manner is with acetic acid.
Vinegar works, but stronger stuff, such as photographer's 'stop bath' is quicker. Be aware that vinegar and iron is the traditional method of producing a black stain: stainless steel knives will be OK, usually. Once you get it loose you have to remove ALL of the old glue before you re-glue it. My experience is that new Titebond doesn't stick well to old Titebond.
Thanks for the rest of the replies. By "reversibility", I meant that a joint could be undone, as in a neck joint or bridge, by methods that are not monstrously difficult.
Harry, thinks for the Masters advice. I don't go there very often, as I've kind of got Titebond Liquid Hide Glue Guitar Repair Lab used to going to either Mitre 10 or Bunnings. It's a mistake to think that "Premium" and "Ultimate" are new and improved versions of "Original": they don't actually provide a significantly stronger bond but just have different properties, mainly increased water-resistance.
In fact, practically all modern wood adhesives worth the name are "stronger than the wood itself", a tired phrase coined many years ago I believe by Resin-W, a white glue very similar to Elmer's. As the Fine Woodworking report shows, most of them will stick two pieces of wood together and make them Titebond Hide Glue Guitar Order difficult to take apart again without damage, but some will make it more difficult than others.
D LaPlante. One specific guitar repair property of Titebond II which no one has yet mentioned is that it's the choice to reglue loose plastic bindings on guitars which have a lacquer finish. I use super glue when repairing things that are not intended to come apart, on a musical instrument that does not include glue joints.
In other words, super glue is never used on loose braces, bridges except where HPL is involved , end pins, open seams, pickguards etc. My most common use would be: fingerboard cracks, cracks in the bridge, inlay repair and the like.
It can be colored and used in many applications but because it is permanent it is not suitable for wood Titebond Liquid Hide Glue For Guitar Al to wood glue joints. Another dangerous but wonderful use for super glue is finish chip repair on some of the newer finishes. It is clear, dries hard, shrinks very little and is sandable, a perfect candidate for finish repair and used by most factories.
Most of the warnings that come with super glue apply to epoxy. It is a permanent adhesive that you must sand to remove once hardened. Like super glue it should not be used on glue joints and seams. Site Map Privacy.
