The Fusion looks like a very nice saw and have considered table saw 3hp myself. More Tablesaws All Tablesaws. Alignment between splitter and blade: 0. Beechwood Chip Posted November 6, Sharp, well tale tools will always out-perform dull well tuned tools. Recommended Posts. You can use both this system and the rails to double-check your measurements while cutting too.

The other two showed a bit of blade scoring. Here we saw real differences. A couple saws come with old-school, ho-hum miter gauges with three miter stops and no frills. Four others add width adjusters on the bars to remedy a sloppy fit in the miter slot.

The remaining saws include upgraded miter gauges with extra detent stops, additional adjustments, and large, comfortable handles. Delta's miter gauge has a spring-loaded lever with a pin that slips into nine detent notches to accurately set common angles.

Besides having five miter detents, Powermatic's miter gauge features a rack-and-pinion microadjuster for fine-tuning. An expensive saw won't make a bad blade cut better, so it makes sense to outfit the saw with a high-quality blade. Four machines come with a blade, but only one made furniture-quality cuts in our tests. When we outfitted the others with a new, premium blade, we saw improvement with each one. These saws fall into three categories for gathering dust: those with only a dust port at the bottom of the cabinet; those with a blade shroud that connects directly to the dust port; and those with a blade shroud and a blade-guard mounted dust port.

Generally, saws with blade shrouds outperformed those without; guard-mounted ports proved a mixed bag. SawStop's blade guard hooks up to a small dust hose that effectively sucks up all the debris that normally would spew out the top.

Because of the wide price range with these tablesaws, your budget might be the primary factor in choosing one. The SawStop has the exclusive safety blade-brake -- a huge advantage over the field -- a rip fence that did not deflect at all, an easy-to-use-and-change blade guard and riving knife, a built-in mobile base, and the best dust collection. On the other hand, Delta's Unisaw has our favorite blade guard and riving-knife system, a stellar miter gauge, and the largest crosscut capacity in front of the blade.

The big top combines with a massive trunnion to make it the heaviest saw in the test. The Unisaw also has the best standard-issue blade, a storage drawer below the extension table, and the most routinely used controls—blade height and bevel, riving-knife release, and a large dial bevel gauge -- all Used Cabinet Makers Table Saw 01 on the front of the cabinet for easy access.

If these saws prove out of your price range, then consider the Grizzly G , our Top Value. With plenty of power and an easy-to-use riving knife, this Grizz gives you a lot for the money. Should anything more conductive than wood—flesh, in particular, but also metal or very wet wood—touch the spinning blade, it triggers the fuse, which slams the aluminum brake pawl into the blade, stopping it and pulling it below the tabletop in a fraction of a second.

If your finger triggers the activation, you get only a tiny nick. These saws use separate cartridges for 10" blades included with the machine and 8" dado blades.

Swapping them takes just a minute or two. A SawStop blade-brake activation leaves the blade and brake cartridge unusable, but your fingers completely usable. The two Grizzly saws and the Shop Fox include a dado throat insert. All the saws have the blade-height handwheel located on the front of the cabinet, but only the Delta has the blade-tilt handwheel there as well shown above.

But to avoid inadvertently changing the blade angle rather than height—which we did—lock the tilt wheel in place at all times. The Powermatic wheel needs only seven rotations to raise the blade fully, the fewest in the test group; the Grizzly GRLX requires 30 turns. For tilting, the Grizzly G and Shop Fox need only 20 turns to reach their maximum angles. The Powermatic needs 34 turns. Typical of cabinet saws, all the test machines proved easy to align. The top also mounts to the cabinet.

To align the top, loosen three of the four mounting bolts—easily accessible outside the cabinet—and then simply pivot the top until the miter slots are within. With most lower-priced tablesaws, the trunnions mount to the tabletop, so you have to reach inside the base to loosen the trunnions and align them and the blade to the top—much more difficult to do.

Delta makes this easier by placing the adjustments on the front of the cabinet show below. Closed cabinets help with dust collection, but you need more than that. A step up from a simple 4" port on the back or side of the cabinet is a shroud around the blade with a hose that sucks dust directly to the port. All but the Grizzly G and Shop Fox have this feature. And all but the Delta have 4" dust ports; it has a 5" port, but comes with a reducer so you can connect to 4" flex-hose. The Delta, Jet, and Powermatic saws come with test-best five-year warranties.

The others give you one or two years. And leveling the cast-iron extension wings on the Delta, shown below , proved easiest. Setscrews make it easy to level the wings on the Delta Unisaw. You simply attach the wings to the top by loosely securing the bolts, adjusting the setscrews until level, and then tightening the bolts. But with dozens of mobility options on the market, which should you choose?

It rolls nicely, and its kickstand works perfectly to elevate and lower it. If available, get the extension to support the legs. Overloading can hamper mobility and damage the casters. A mobile base should have at least two locking casters, but four work even better. This proves helpful should you replace your saw—no need to buy another base. Invest some of your savings in a miter-gauge upgrade.
