I took mine out of the package, gave it a good looking over and put it to work marking dovetails. Worked just fine. Quality looks excellent - nicely finished wood, tight brass ferrule, and flat, sharp, well-finished blade. Test marking cuts were clear and clean. I do agree with other comments recommending one or two small flats on the handle to help keep it from rolling away.

Exactly what you would expect. Wood handle is sealed, blade is sharp. Dual bevel is nice as it allows marking from either direction. Blade is not replaceable, sharpen as needed like your chisels. This is a great traditional marking tool that severs the grain as you would expect. William Ng always said if you want to make good joints, use a pencil.

If you want to make great joints use a knife. Images in this review. Does a nice job of marking dovetail pins, which is what I got it for, and the price was quite reasonable.

It's comfortable in my hand, and sharp enough out of the box to use immediately. I haven't used it enough to assess how long the edge will hold, but given that I use it only for dovetails, I don't expect to be sharpening it very frequently. This product has great potential, but it seems like it's missing is fine finishing steps. The handle is solid, but the finish is remarkably rough, especially around the thin part where your fingers would go.

The blade comes with a sharp enough edge, but the blade is somewhat thin, and feels as if it doesn't go far enough into the handle to be sturdy.

There is a bevil on one side of the blade, making it a true marking knife. All things considered, this would be a great tool for a beginner's tool box, and a great tool to learn how to use a marking knife, but there are better options available for the more serious woodworker. This has become my marking knife of choice.. It can sharpened very sharp and the point is about right for cutting wood fibers yet not bending to easy.

I do wish it came with a guard but a point sheath is easy to make. Report abuse. The main positive is that it really is much thinner and easier to handle than other knives.
