They had at one point a dock that turned their battery saw into a miter saw. Then you can add other tools that all use the same batteries. The positive stops and calibration adjustment that Dewalt and Metabo, Bosch, etc. Can you do all of that with the Chicago?

So Matebo is a decent brand as well? I was looking at those first but never heard of them before. HF corded tools work just fine. Especially the miter saws. Ryobi would be better for the warranty but I don't think it is any higher quality than the equivalently priced HF. HF has 3 price levels for the 12 inch slider. If you are okay with no sliding the DeWalt is a good deal if it's in good condition mechanically.

The Chicago Electric 12 inch sliding will be more capable in terms of what it can do but will be lower quality. Yes, a sliding saw would probably be more useful in the long run compared to a none sliding one. It will most likely stand up to what you need, and will still be sliding so no sacrificing capability.
