Safety and transit time in mind. MODEL Please see pics. Posted with. I hope I look this good at 80! This thing. While clearly being a vise that saw work, is still in fantastic condition. The action is slippery smooth and the jaws meet up squarely. Do you how many early 20th century vises I've seen with the original hardie before?

Absolutely zero. I'm just stunned it's still present and in really nice condition as well. The patent date stamped into the side of the slide is March I took it down to bare metal and gave it a good inspection.

Other than skin-deep. Expected work marks there was no damage and no repairs have ever been performed. I painted I did bake the paint on and I believe it should hold up decently. The photos are pretty close but it may seem a tad darker in person. No paint was applied to any friction surface.

All threads were cleaned and chased. I did not apply any lubricant to this vise. If you don't agree with me here just let me know and I'll be happy to put some synthetic grease on the main-screw before I ship it.

First off. The action is very nice on this vise and you won't notice the grease being gone. The reason I don't like to add grease is here is because of this style vise.

It's called an exposed screw vise. That means you can see the main screw because it isn't located within a hollow slide. With the screw out in the open and greased it will catch and hold every piece of dust, metal shaving and dirt that comes its way.

That will soon lead to worn threads and stubborn action. I recommend just blowing off the screw every once in a while and you won't ever see any trouble. I personally believe this vise to have been originall. This is a big boy. It's a wee bit disconcerting when you first see it too.

Typically when you see a vise of this style it will be a smallish 3. But then your eyes are forced to accept the fact that this one is fundamentally larger. The difference between a 3. This vise is 15" long and stands over 8" tall. It opens to a staggering 7" There's no getting around the fact that this is a large and heavy vise.

Speaking of weight. This clocks in at an even 40 pounds. Unfortunately that's going to make shipping on the high side so my apologies there, wish it wasn't that way, believe me. Let's talk about this vise up for sale here. First off, the colors are Almond on the bottom and Navy Blue on the top.

It's quite a contrast, There's three coats of each color enamel here, all of which were baked on at degrees for a half hour. This system seems to be durable as far as paint goes, it's served me well at least. It opens and closes nicely. I'm not going to go on describing it too much because you have eyes and there's a dozen large photos to see that will do a far better job than my typing.

There is a nice battle scar on this vise. You can easily see it. You probably already have. It's a nick where a person using a saw accidentally sliced partially into the cast iron of the stationary jaw. I really put some stress on the vise here and it's not budging. Unless you go beating on it with a five pound sledge Please don't do that. I do not believe it's going to have any effect on using it. It looked to me like this cut has been on the vise a very long time and it's held up just fine so far.

So if you want a really big vise in that old USA style this might be a good one for you to take a hard look at. I'm sure you'll enjoy it. Specs and dimen. They open to 2 12 inches. But will fit in a flat rate box, good deal. Powered by The free listing tool. Up for your consideration is a nice Craftsman No. The vise has 3" jaws that close squarely and are in good condition. The jaws open to 5" It opens and closes smoothly.

This vise has a swivel base that attaches to a workbench with three mounting screws or bolts. It is in good condition with signs of use and age.
