This was my first pocket hole jig and I have to say my expectations of Kreg were high and what i got was extremely disappointing and frustrating. I tried calling their support line but no one picked up. Issues: 1. When the tip of the supplied drill bit pushes on the depth setting part which is made from soft plastic, it leaves a divot.

My brand new Kreg pocket hold jig has 2 drill marks on both depth gauge limiters. The clamp adapter and anti-slip base are a joke. It broke on the first project that soft plastic material again. Moreover, the rubber protrusion that's supposed to slip in the hexagonal opening in the Jig fits perfectly only in the left most jig. Just a bad design making clamping a major problem.

The Kreg sleave fell off after 5 clamps leaving the metal bare and not friendly to skin. Hard to adjust and since it moves around a lot, I was constantly trying to fine tune the adjustment for the same plywood pieces. I expected the Kreg brand to be something to aspire to, but from my experience, not worth it. Great value. Makes pocket holes simple. Bought to make some pocket holes for a DIY sofa build.

This is very simple and accurate to use. Using the thickness gauge allows you to quickly adjust the slide stop on the jig so the holes are created at the right distance from the end of the wood. The thickness gauge also has the built in hex wrench to adjust the stop collar on the drill bit.

This stop collar ensures you drill the holes to the correct depth. The clamp pad adapter allows you to quickly move the jig from once piece of wood to the next clamp not included. I don't actually have a clamp that fits in the clamp pad adapter, but it should work fine with any bar clamp I used Jorgenson ez hold bar clamps.

The steps would look like this: 1. Measure wood thickness 2. Adjust slide stop to wood thickness setting 3. Adjust drill bit collar to same wood thickness setting 4. Place jig on wood and clamp down 5. Drill holes and then attach boards together and screw in screws with included screws and square drill bit. The jig is also very configurable. The standard configuration with spacer in between works well for 2 x 4's.

But, if you need to put the holes closer together you can remove the center spacer. Or, if you just need a single jigs, you can use each on their own. The case is great to keep everything together. Happy drilling! Never again, Kreg. The jig itself is fine. I have never owned a pocket hole jig before, and I wanted one for a simple workbench project I'm constructing.

Some pocket hole jigs are much easier to move around than others, and many jig designs can be used as standalone tools. However, whether or not this is the best option depends on what you need: some of the best pocket hole jigs are ones that you have to clamp down onto a work surface.

These are the best pocket hole jigs not because of their size, but because the stability of the clamp can help them deliver accurate results with the drill bit , something that becomes much harder with portable options. On the other hand, if you are specifically looking for the best pocket hole jigs regardless of overall quality, then it is not hard to find ones that are designed to be used as a regular tool.

Pocket hole jigs need to be accurate, and that means that you want the best accuracy-focused features possible. This could be anything from drill guides and a depth collar to a special drill bit system, or even just multiple wood depth adjustment settings. Always make sure you have at least a good level of accuracy since this is the main thing that changes how well your resulting holes will look once they are drilled.

Most jig tools are screwed in at around 15 degrees, drilling at an angle into the surface. Some tools might adjust this slightly: for example, the Porter-Cable can be altered in very minor ways, even though the Porter-Cable is generally more focused on quick setups. For example, a Kreg jig will handle wood in the same way that a discount option will: the only difference is that Kreg products have more features and better materials, as well as the fact that Kreg is more likely to offer support if something goes wrong.

That being said, you are free to use whatever brands you like: for every Kreg product, there is bound to be plenty of other products that are just as good as anything Kreg will make.

A new pocket hole jig is often the best way to handle creating new joints and small repair tanks in a variety of wood furnishings and items, letting you quickly and easily make changes to the surfaces without having to spend much time and effort doing it manually. They make measurement easy, speed up the process dramatically, and are basically a really convenient item to have no matter how experienced you are. Some brands have their own names for particular hole types and angles. There are three faces on most pieces of wood: the end grain, the edge grain, and the face grain.

Jigs are almost never meant to be used on the end grain, so you will need a more specialized tool for it.
