That being said, one-off cuts typically don't get a blade change, so both of these Makita blades have seen srious duty cutting both hardwood and softwood.

The softwood blade has been cleaned probably x a quarter with the citrusy stuff they sell at Rockler whenever it gets "burny". The hardwood has been cleaned identically once just this week when it burned some cherry prety bad but cherry I instead just replaced them which is the point of this post. These blades are stable and awesome cutters 'til they ain't.

And that usually takes at least a year with standard cleaning mtx and pmi. This blade is, quite frankly, price-to-value, impossible to beat. If you are looking for an excellent throw-away blade, you've found it.

If you're willing to stay on top of cleaning this as needed, you've found a gem that will easily last you for 6 months to a year of daily use. Proof is in the use and mine performed excellently. Caveats : I almost exclusively work with relatively soft woods pine, poplar and red oak , and I rarely cross-cut, but this thing rips beautifully. The ultra-thin kerf had me worried about deflection, but I haven't observed any and my cuts have been glue-up quality straight.

I replaced a worn out t with this 40t chopper and am loving everything about it so far! Installation was a breeze on a Ryobi 10" mitre saw. Based on my experience with a Makita 80T blade for sliding compound miter saw I purchased this blade to cut MDF for radiator covers.

This blade has performed equally well at the 80T. I have to say I'm very impressed with these Makita blades. I believe the 80T does a cleaner cut than my much more expensive Forrest 80T miter saw blade. Great blade for the table saw.

Irwin should sell replacement blades so that one handle can be used for more than one type of blade. Thsi would make for better use of space in the tool box. If the back was removeable it would be perfect.

Date published: Rated 4 out of 5 by buscar from Replacement Blades I loved the way my Irwin fine cut saw performed, until I tried to cut schedule 40 pvc with it. The fine cut saw isn't designed for that kind of work. Most of the teeth quickly disappeared. I had used it for a good bit of woodworking over aboiut 5 years, however, and had been very pleased with its performance.

I agree with others that Irwin needs to retail replacement blades. I hate to buy a completely new saw when the one I have is already compatible for replacement blades. However the blade now has a number of damaged teeth and replacement blades seem impossible to find, this does not make sense when the blade is designed to be removeable.

I would also agree with previous reviewers who say that the plastic back should have been made detachable to enable deeper and flush cuts to be made. Had replacement blade been available this would be a top rated item. I have lots of experience with hands tools since I grew up in a violin shop. I own several expensive Japanese style saws that cost 3 to five times what this retails for, and they do not cut as well or as fast.

Although the teeth make neat crosscuts, this saw also works well for rip cuts and fine joinery such as tenons and dovetails. The handle is better IMO than traditional straight handles of typical Japanese saws. This handle feels comfortable and provides a good feel with control.

The saw is lightweight and disassembles for traveling in a toolbox without damage. I Best Fine Tooth Hand Saw Zip only have two complaints: Although the handle is removable, Irwin does not provide replacement blades.
