Most were much smaller and less robust. The rust you highlight on the parts is minimal The portion of the headstock in your one photo looks to be in great condition. The main issue is what all you have vs.

Atlas lathes are pretty ubiquitous and were common machines. The parts you have are actively being sought by others so at the very least your efforts will be rewarded by getting you ready and educated on those for marketing purposes prior to any re-sell attempt if you choose to go that route selling off the parts you do have.

I suspect that trunk is full of other surprises too from the teaser photos and that your Dad was squirrelling them away with some good purpose in mind. Last edited: Apr 5, I do have other pictures, I was going to wait to post better quality pictures, there was a lot of junk on the parts. Here are the other pictures I currently have. I didn't know about the casting numbers or anything. The cross slide controls seem to be in pretty bad shape, I didn't take a picture of that. I'll get some better pictures tomorrow. The handles that change gears seemed sticky which is an easy fix, paint is an easy fix. I don't mind taking the time stripping the lathe down and building it back up, just going to wait to until I get more pictures up and get feedback before I do anything.

No worries, it will come together over time. I see you have the quick-change gearbox. That is a nice addition and if you can't rebuild it in totality it will be easy to move on and will pull in some good coin for you. It's puzzling why the lathe was disassembled so much. They often get torn down a bit to lighten the load and facilitate a move but yours seems to be really broken down beyond the norm.

You will need to pull everything out, get it organized, and do an inventory. Take some new pics of that and post them up here with your thoughts on it all The pics I posted earlier showed a model without the QC option. Thanks Powered by The free listing tool. Nice pair of Jacobs drill chucks in good working order used for accurate drilling ans countersinking. That came from an Atlas The 7b is nice and smooth and works flawlessly but I do not have the key for it. It is marked k44 7B cap.

The 30B is a little stiff when spun by hand but opens and closes completely fine with use of the key. Good shape. Free shipping to the lower 48 states. Made in the USA. Condition is very nice overall as shown in photos. Chuck opens and closes nicely. Has some normal wear marks from use and storage. Seems to be a MT1 taper. Not abused. It works well and you don't ha e to worry about hurting anything. There are places that have parts for them. With aluminum you will have to tighten the chuck more than you do with wood.

Sent from my phone using some program. Metal lathes work with much higher cutting tool pressures than wood lathes. A morse taper will not handle that kind of load and vibration. KenV Member. The G3 is made for a wood lathe and does not have the inherent precision that a metal lathe chuck with proper back plate fit to it will have. Go for the better precision of the metal lathe rather than cobbling together something for the Nova G3.

You guys likely know much more than I do, but couldn't you turn aluminum between centers? To the OP, if you're looking at lathes, pick one that comes with tooling.

Mine happened to come with a 4 jaw self-indexing chuck on a back plate that comes in very useful from time to time. I've also made a few small metal parts with it, including some bushings. For an antique, these work great for pen making. The speeds are easy to change, and assuming you get one with back gears, you can go down to 30 RPMs or so. I generally leave mine set at around for drilling, squaring, and sanding so I never have to mess with the wood lathe. Regards, Michael.
