To create the groove for the sliding fence I put a 1/2″ router bit in my table and cut just deep enough for the head of a hex bolt to sit beneath the surface. 3/8 inch should be plenty of depth here but hex bolt heads may vary in thickness so check before you cut how deep the groove needs to be.
