Would be impossible to sand anything flat. I just assembled by Rikon The machine itself is solid. A quick test on a curved piece already shows it will suit me just fine. The stand is a little wobbly and two of the frame pieces were poorly painted. The dust port is only 2". My 14" Rikon bandsaw has a 4" port. I wish some standardization were possible as I am tired of buying adapters for my dust collection system.

Solid construction. Belt tension was a bit loose and this caused the belt to slip if anything more than light pressure was applied. Found the spring tensioner stop was too long. Ground down the stop and everything works nicely. Plenty of power, tested with moderate to heavy pressure on the belt and on the disc. No appreciable drag or reduction in RPM. The stand is sturdy and adequate but may be a bit light in weight.

That said, there is no tendency for the unit to move or wobble under normal use. Images in this review. Poor conformance to standards. Replaced an 8 year old Delta model no longer made with this Rikon. Assembly was straightforward and everything fit OK.

Quality was a bit less than than the Delta which had a cast iron bed versus the Rikon's steel bed. The big difference was in dust collection. The dust collection from the belt sander is OK, not great, but mostly satisfactory. The dust from the disc sander is horrible - dust flies out of the right side of the disc o'clock position right up at your face. I will have to build a hood of some sort to capture this dust. Also, the only dust port is pretty under sized at 2". You'll need an adapter to attach to a 2.

It didn't seem to fit a shop vac hose either. It is almost as though Rikon doesn't understand sanding makes a ton of dust. Update - knocked a star off my rating due to the disc sander tool rest. Non of my jigs fit, including a commercial circle jig from Rockler. Don't they have any engineers at this company?? It's a nice tool, good attention to detail, but the stand is light enough to make Harbor Freight look heavy. When there are rubber feet that slide onto a flat piece of metal, it'll cut right through the foot just sitting there.

Otherwise, if you take it as a good tool for non-professional use, it's right on target. It came with two of the bolt rests broken - Rikon replaced them in two days.

Dust collection is very nice - quiet operation too. Well designed, great performance and good value. It may cost Rikon a few cents more to package properly but it says a lot about their pride in their products and the importance of good customer experience. Net, well designed, well packaged and it does what it was designed to do without much fuss. This sander is adequate. Plenty of power and works well. But the design is not as good as the previous model. The disc gets in the way.

On the previous model the belt was higher than the disc. Also, the sander came to me missing some parts. Not the nicest thing to find after purchasing a large sander. I contacted the seller and they said they were unable to help and issued a partial refund instead. Kudos to rikon. One nice feature on this model is the adjustment for the disc sanding table.

Instead of having to loosen a knob on both sides of the table, only one knob on the left has to be loosened then a second knob adjusts the table up and down.

One person found this helpful. By Firehawk , December 8, in Product Reviews. I bought myself a Rikon combo belt and disc sander with some birthday money. The shown above has a stamped steel base versus the cast iron base on the shown below.

It weighs in at 68 pounds compared to the pounds of the Part of the weight reduction is the aluminum table, again compared to cast iron of the The unit required very little assembly, other than the stand which I elected not to use because I felt it was a little short for my liking.

The disc table went on easily and took little effort to set square. The unit was fairly quite and virtually vibration free. This surprised me considering the weight reduction of the previous model. I thought dust collection was marginal until I tried it without running my shop vac. I was also please that the belt required no adjustment and tracked very well. All in all I believe the is the better value over the By the way both units have a five year warranty.

This is the first Rikon machine I have purchased and I an very happy with it. Here is a picture of mine on an extra stand that I had. I picked this up today. My one gripe is the 2" dust port, why couldn't they do 2.

I have had the for several years. It is a beast and I use it daily. The dust collection is abysmal, I agree, only a marginal fraction over nothing at all.

Besides the body shape of the two units I think the biggest factor is the table. The has a nice, heavy Rikon Disc Sander Ltd cast-iron table and the redesign does not.

I am a bit disappointed that you didn't buy a Burr King though. I would like to know someone that owns one. I really missed the chance. I love Rikon combo belt and disc sander. It's easy to use. Great machine. You can post now and register later.
