It takes some time to get the blade flat, honed and polished, but it is worth the time. I have had trouble getting the fine scratches out of my other Wood River irons, so I also bought a Pinnacle blade that was ready to go out of the box. I flattened it with a series of DMT stones, water stone, then green compound on a leather strop. The sole of this plane is dead flat, and I jointed both edges of a 6' pine board just for fun.
