Cast grey iron construction, adjustable dog bench mount workshop vice with two steel guide rods to deliver a true parallel action.  Irwin Record Wood Working Vice with DOG 7" / mm. By Irwin Product code: Pack size: Each. Click here for full description. Beginner’s question: I am restoring a record 52 thats in pretty good shape with a good coat of surface rust everywhere. Started off with soaking it in apple cider vinegar and the rust is coming off quite well. I wanted to take the vice apart to clean the quick release parts with the disks as you describe above – but I can’t get the pin out of the end (which I assume is necessary to take it apart – I haven’t found any instructions on how to break it down).  Could you help me suggesting other record vices? Thanks. Giorgio.  If the vise has wooden jaws fitted, check that there is a gap between the bottom edge of the wood and the parallel bars on the bench side. If this catches it causes the vise to slip. If the vise closes to parallel under moderate pressure it will work fine. Buy record wood vice and get the best deals at the lowest prices on eBay! But seriously, who the hell approximates mm up to mm. You bumped it so many times that you deserve a reply. I'm not sure what model my "record is", or where it was made but it is similar to yours and a great one it is too - especialy as I only paid 10 dollars at a local flea market.

As long as you're happy that you weren't robbed - record wood vice questions great. Hi Hansp77, I guess you answered your own question. I have a 7" Record, quick release but it is very plane, no number on it, almost looked fabricated as opposed to cast. So my guess is that Record may well have made some 'budget' vices. Mine looks a LOT cheaper than yours but it works well. Like Denn, I got it cheaply locally and reckon it was a good deal.

With ebay one takes a chance but you have a great vice there. If you are happy you are in front. Now you have to make some stuff and show us how well the vice really works. Cheers Pops. Record quick release vice - update Today I went to my supplier armed with a picture of my failed vice and the e-mails from the Record Tool factory in England, the e-mail from Irwin Tools who are supposed to be providing warranty and a parts diagram of the vice. No help. Irwin said that they had no Record vice parts and no Record vices but expected to be getting these once again in the fall or spring of next year.
