Mortice and tennon jig Discussion in ' Carpenters' Talk ' started mortise and tenon jig screwfix native woodworkerJan 28, I have just been watching the Great british Workshop and regulary see the bloke using a Trend Mortice and tennon jig to create perfect joints.
Has any one else tried these jigs and are they really as good as they look. I have used a mortise machine which makes a nice job however i find it quite difficult and time consuming to make the tennon to fit them and the result is not always as good as i would like it mortise and tenon jig screwfix native be.
I have seen a topic on this already. Dont know if its on here or another forum. At least Norm Abram shows a variety of methods. Do they still teach the old methods now? DewyJan mortise and tenon jig screwfix native, Dewy, I don't think many people use the old fashioned methods any more. No wonder we are a nation of fatties, we all want to do things the easy way unless you need to dig out 12 tonnes of dirt using a s dding shovel and a pick axe on your weekend off.
Hi Woodworker I have this jig and I use it with two cheap Ferm routers and 8mm cutters. Once you have set it up it doesn't take long at all to produce the mortice and then the tenon. By using the two routers you do not have to change cutters when you have finished all of your tenons. All in all a pretty good jig.
Cheers Neil. NeilJan 29, Cheers Neil, I think i might add one to my birthday list. If you have a bandsaw it will cut tenons all day with very little setting up, and has lots of other uses. Jigs are best for repetitive work, if you only have a couple of joints to cut it takes longer to set it up than cutting it by hand, and yes I Mortise And Tenon Jig Screwfix Iphone still cut some mortise and tenons by hand Keith.
WOLFJan 29, Before getting a table saw I cut all my joints by hand. I didn't drill for a mortice then chisel the rest out. I used mortice chisels to remove all the waste. That was how we were taught at school. The same with dovetails. I didn't know there was any other way until seeing NYW. I never attempted lapped dovetails though.
I marvel at those who made mitred dovetails. What craftsmen they were before machinery made it all so easy. DewyFeb 2, My dad used to Mortise And Tenon Jig Screwfix Gif cut mortise and tenon jig screwfix native his mortice and tenon joints by hand and he only had one - blew the other off with a rocket when he was a naughty kid!
I still have his furniture he made 40 years ago. I always try to reuse any old wood I can find to make my stuff. I can never go past a skip without having a good scan for useful stuff.
I have a whole conservatory full of bits and pieces - much to my wife's dismay! MadDesignerFeb 2, You must log in or sign up to reply here. Show Ignored Content. Share This Page Tweet.
