Coarse and fine adjustments prove easy when setting bit depth in handheld mode. A chart on the router body translates speed-dial markings to actual speeds. The only router in this power class that provides through-the-tabletop adjustment for cutting depth, a feature we quickly grew to love. Collet raises high enough to change most router bits from above the table. Clear subbases one for P-C guide bushings, and the other with a larger opening provide a good view of the bit when routing handheld.
Two-stage depth-setting system a quick-release nut for large depth changes, and a knob for fine adjustments proved effective and accurate both handheld and table-mounted. Low points: Motor can drop out of base if unsupported when making large depth changes under the table. No flat edge on the subbase makes routing against a straightedge more prone to slight discrepancies. More points: One of only two fixed-base routers in our 3-hp router test; field cuts are more difficult without plunge action.
Pistol-grip handles can be replaced with included ball-shaped handles if the user prefers. The included T-wrench makes through-the-table height adjustments a snap, but you must first reach below the table to unlock the router base. You can change most bits above the table, but large-diameter bits block wrench access. Show full review. Detailed Ratings 4. Reviewed by: robbyw Review Summary I bought this router a couple of Milwaukee 5625 Router Motor Only Not years ago for use in my router table. I messed with it in its original fixed base, but I don't really have an application that can use the power of this router in a base.
I installed it in a Jess-Em Master Lifter base and my router table. The combination is dynamite! If you don't want to use a lift, the router and base have a mechanism that allows you to adjust the height of the router from above. This would enable you to just bolt the fixed base to your router table and use it as is. You would have to be careful that the router didn't fall out though. I recommend a real lift instead.
For added protection when table-mounted, the router features an exclusive motor contamination shield that keeps damaging debris out without sacrificing airflow. The router also features a durable, rubber shield for dust-free access to the height adjustment system.
For maximum operator control and comfort, Milwaukee 5625 Router Motor Only System the router has impact-resistant, tactile-grip handles set wide apart and angled forward. A heavy-duty, 22 amp switch and speed control dial Milwaukee Router Motor Only Light positions are conveniently located to allow the operator full motor control while keeping both hands on the tool.
