I've added a photo to clarify what will I be jointing. I don't know about a "quality" surface, but it should be enough for a glue joint. Try it on a scrap piece before your blank to see if your jointer is set correctly.

I may have misread part Jointer Plane End Grain 01 of the question before and thought you were asking about using either a thickness planer or a jointer rather than just a jointer.

I've updated my answer, but I absolutely would not use a jointer to joint end grain for strips of a cutting board. It just seems too easy the jointer to split the piece along the end grain and make things could go very wrong very quickly. I'm trying to see what happened on that cutting board. It looks like it was being planed from the left but the break appears to be related to a gouge blade impact?
