The saw gets five stars, but I do have some nits. Most importantly, it does not have a magnetic switch. If the power goes off while the saw is running, and then comes back on hours later, the saw starts up again.

That's bad. Thus, sawdust escapes from around the lower door even when a vacuum is applied. Finally, as many have pointed out, you have to buy a fence separately. At this price, these flaws should not be present. Overall, however, this is a fine, sturdy and precise saw. I'm looking forward to many years of productive use.

Does everything I ask it with quiet precision. This machine is powerful and quiet. I installed an excellent, non-Jet aftermarket fence from my older saw and this Jet cuts straight and true without drift. The built in 12" capacity is great - no riser block needed.

Guide bearings and tracking are easy to adjust with window on edge of upper door and this setup is well-described in the manual. There are angled stabilizing supports bolted to the back of the base to prevent tipping the motor is bolted to the back of the cast iron frame creating a bit of a top heavy machine.

Do this first! Very nice that there is a lever for quick release of band tension. This I found puzzling. The tech also told me that tensioning can be done with the release lever disengaged opposite of what is said in the manual; see below. Another downside to the tensioning process: the knob is obscenely small, but with a good bit of effort you can get the band up to the proper scale mark, but it is not something you would cherish doing every day.

Please note that a plastic scale was stuck with adhesive to the back of the block indicating where the level of tension needed to be for different size blades. It is totally inaccurate - peel it off, and low and behold, embossed on the block is the true scale marks.

That's what the Jet technician told me to do. The User Manual needs to be rewritten - poor grammar, photos not with sufficient contrast, not enough information on the tensioning process, where parts are located. Product tech support is timely.
