The Approaches to New Orleans. Gooey Gruyere Curd. Grand Arcanum Trap Blueprints. There's only one way to be a pilot, and that is to get this entire river by heart. Awesome job.

Of course I will select the boards that are straight but Is there anything else I should consider or be cautious about? Hi there, we recently bought a farmhouse in MD. The house itself needs to be completely renovated and updated. This is going to require multiple structural changes. There have been various pieces of the structural elements that have been confirmed to be white oak. Can someone tell me how strong a 5. What find if load can white oak carry?

Lumber span tables are commonly available on the internet with a simple Google search. The span tables will give you all of the essential load data you need. You will need a knowledgeable structural engineer to tell you the strength of your beam.

The member can be grade in-situ to provide a better representation of strength. It also depends how the beam is installed and its connections.

Oak, Cherry? Also, what stain would you recommend for restaining the top and mirror area. Thank you. I am thinking of using White Oak in lieu of Cypress for rebuilding my exterior porch railing. I know that White Oak can be stained, but can it be painted to a nice smooth finish? Cypress has excellent rot resistance and will hold up much better in exterior conditions but to answer your question: Oak in general is not a very friendly wood to paint if you are looking for a smooth surface.

The grains are very open and porous so you will still see the graining even after being painted. Hard Maple is a much better wood if you are looking for a smooth finish paint job and it is just as strong as White Oak. Make sure it is Hard Maple as there are soft maple woods as well.

The other option if … Read more ». White oak is not difficult to paint to a smooth finish, so long as it is well sanded. Softwoods actually tend to expand less than hardwoods due to moisture exchange, which is one of the reasons they are used often in exterior builds.

Plus, they tend to be less expensive, and paint easily. It seem to have a high shrinkage rate, but if it is quarter swan would or will that apply assuming that it has been properly dried?

Fantastic writing! I always found the same but i think is just because the grain sometimes has ondulations. If you peel the bark of a holm oak quercus ilex you will see it more clearly. Those parts seem to have bad grain but they never gave problems to me when doing steam bending of kayak ribs ;.

On the other hand If she had said no, you would have found a female Redditor who would definitely dig you.

Or a male redditor. Anyone whos willing to put that much effort could make me swing both ways. You single op? Great lighting, excellent angles, impressive build and a beautiful couple! I can feel the love! As some random stranger on the internet, I now pronounce you internet man and wife. You may now kiss the bride. You could also sharpen it and use it to cut off people's fingers while sleeping.

I just thought of that now. On the go circumcisions? Hey OP that looks slick. I really like the way the iris blades are actuated with pins - its super compact! I have made a few of these mechanical iris'ss hidden in jewelry boxes.

You, sir, are a true talent! The craftsmanship and creativity are blowing my mind I guess we should start a club for those enganged via mechanical iris! Yeah although my wife helped me a bit : I've built 3 now including the first which i also proposed with.

Its super cool to see other people doing similar things. Yeah, I'm fortunate to have access to such a nice shop while I'm in grad school. I'm gonna miss it when I finish! I'm in my 30s and just building up a garage workspace that compares with what I had access to a decade ago in college. Haven't had a job with a decent space at the office in almost a decade. Im considering joining a local makerspace. That's what you are thinking right now.

In a year or so you will be complaining that they don't have X or Y, because you absolutely NEED it for your next project Which I will probably do, that isnt a bad price and I cant see myself going more than once or twice a month. Wait, people major in woodworking? You cant be serious. I always figured if you wanted to do it as a profession you just kind of showed up to a cabinet shop when you were 18 and learned as you swept floors or something for a while. They wouldn't major it in - they'd go to trade school.

Getting a tradesman ticket will get much higher wages than just starting work at 18 and never going to school. I just tried to grab the SolidWorks files and I got some message that the url shortener was violating someone's terms of service I think. It will typically import SolidWorks files really well. Thanks for pointing that out!! I just checked the link on my phone and it took me to an outdated link. It should be working now, though!

I was pretty nervous trying to propose while remote triggering my camera, so I forgot to push the button more than once. Thankfully, that one photo turned out well :. She couldn't stop burping? Are you engaged to Robert Durst?

And Robert Durst is a woman now? It's black veneer that I glued between the segments. Hey OP, you mentioned the mechanism is called an Iris mechanism. Do you know names or general terms to describe other similar mechanisms? The only thing i can think of is aperture, but I'm more interested in things where the members stick outward in the open position, like in the iris mechanism. Amazing work btw! Thanks for the heads up! I don't know if there's a more general term for the mechanism, but aperture mechanisms tend to have overlapping blades.

If I come across another term for this type of mechanism, I'll let you know! It's black veneer. It feels like thick black paper, but it's really thin dyed wood.

Looks like a trap where you'd put Build A Steam Box For Bending Wood 01 a appendage in and it'd just swoop it right off. Kind of makes you wonder when an engagement ring box makes one think of an elaborate dick trap, huh? Like maybe it's a subtle statement about marriage. I wish I could, but I'm trying to finish up grad school and I don't have the extra bandwidth.

I was hoping you were going to incorporate a mechanism that has the ring slide out and the iris open with a twist of the base of the box, but this is still way cool. Yeah, I had considered that, but it seemed a bit of a stretch considering my time constraint and how many 'firsts' were going on with this design first time turning, designing an iris, designing CNC tool paths, etc.

I'd love to see how someone might approach that problem, though! Second, you should get back into making music again! I remember watching all your YouTube videos years and years ago and that actually motivated me to join an acapella group when I was in college.

You were awesome - I hope you still sing and play guitar! That's so awesome! What group? And thank you! I do still make music, but it's mostly for other people these days. But how does it open? With a quick spin of the wrist? The very top ring spins independently of the base and forces the leaflets to follow a pre-defined path. You don't have to actually touch the brass parts to open and close it. That is amazing. I am a jeweler and have built many MANY pieces of jewelry.

I have yet to make a single box for my art work. This is inspiring. Thank you for sharing. Please please tell me, how did you animate that? Using Solidworks? Is the final one a rendered Solidworks animation? I downloaded your files, but it seems not to mention much about the animation.

I have been dying to find out how to create proper animations using Solidworks. Thank you! It's a stop motion image series, not a rendering. I put the camera on a tripod and tried my best to open the box little by little without moving it too much.

The intermediate animation in the imgur post is a solidworks rendering, but I didn't want to take the time to animate it, so I just moved the leaflets in the assembly while taking screenshots and put them together as a gif in Photoshop. There are some tutorials on YouTube that explain animating assemblies. This is amazing!

And gorgeous. And I love the non traditional ring. And if I were not married I'd be jealous That's really cool! I think my favorite caption is the last one. Because it's real and not Disney fairytale BS. I'm not as of now - gotta finish grad school first! I'm considering converting the design to layers that can be laser cut and putting it on the GlowForge store when it's up and running.

It's not the thoughtfulness or the care you put into crafting this, or the attention you paid to making this special for her that makes me think you two are a good match. Instead, it's the caption on your final picture which made me laugh. If I got this, I'd be more excited about the box than the ring.
